Case XX 5172

Post by Whitetaillane »

[image][/image]I picked up a Case 5172 at a yard sale recently. I soaked it in oil for several days before I could get it open. The blade is in terrible shape. I would like to replace the blade. I contacted Case but they said since it was before 1990 they could not help. Does anyone know where I could find a blade for this knife. Thanks

You would probably be better off looking for a 5172 with damaged handles to use as a donor knife rather than looking for just the blade. You could use a blade from any 72 but it wouldn't be marked correctly for stag. Are the handles on your knife in decent shape? Can you tell what the tang stamp says on the current blade? Your pics didn't come through. Make sure your pictures are stored on the device you are posting from and follow the steps in AAPK tips and tricks.

What does the rest of the knife look like? What era is your knife from?

The reason I was asking,, was I have a tested 5172 that needs handles. It wouldn’t look right in your frame. I think the frames changed slightly from the tested era to the 70s era.[attachment=1]9391A031-D94D-452B-B5B2-5035D578419F.jpeg[/
