KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY

Thanks, but I didn't take it apart, I want to eventually. I did this one by hand, I would think if I could have taken it apart the way to go would be maybe a belt sander??? I just wanted to rescue it, the previous owner was never going to do anything with it.

The old sayin' "The early bird gets the worm" must be true. I waited till Miss Joy had her physical therapy at 10:30 to check on the big Flea Across Florida yard sale. Lots of junk, China cheapies around. One old feller had a pile of decent knives all with either broken or missing blade, priced way too high. He asked me if I knew a certain man? I said, "Yes sir, I know him." He says, "Well he bought all the good ones about 6:30 this mornin'!"
He had a pile of $1 knives and I found a little wooden handled A.W. Wadsworth. The blade looks like it was bead blasted.
One guy had all the new China plastic handled zombie killers and I asked him about a good knives? He said he had a Case in his car that he would sell. So we walk to the car and he shows me a 3207CV that needs cleaning, don't think it has been sharpened, $10. Then at another Zombie killer supply table I saw a little knife in a pile of old hand tools. It was a complete mess but it had a Case Tested stamp. The handles had outgassed and the spring was broken from the outgassing and the blade had been tipped. The man say's, "Would you give me a dollar for it?" I told him, "No, you ought to give it to me to get it out of your sight!" He handed me the knife and grinned. It is a Case Tested, probably a 31024 1/2. Under the rust in places there is still bright metal, no patina, probably tipped and laid to rest in a drawer many moons ago. Also saw a Bulldog congress that was totally destroyed by outgassing, the owner had the original box and it had deteriorated without him knowing what was happening.

Early German Peters...Early today I shopped an estate sale.... these things are usually overpriced and sure enough there was a Keen Kutter with broken blade for 16$ then a banged up Henckels with broken scales and missing pieces for 42$. Maybe I need to lower expectations..... I picked up a pearl handles knife that looked intack and both blades looked full but they were frozen shut and there was black and green paint ....dont know why but I paid the few dollars for it and brought it home. The pictures tell the rest. I had found a Peters knife stamped both blades and very nice afterall. I know it is old (1876-86?) but was surprised when I checked on ebay and found one listed at 100$??? Are they really that valuable or is this seller just fishing??? Thanks for any help...

Treefarmer, you have three good project knives there. I'm not a knife mechanic but I hope to disassemble a knife soon. I just bought a book on repairing knives and am looking forward to giving it a try,as soon as I purchase some tools, along with the info here on AAPK. I don't know if I would try it again after just finishing the one I just posted without a belt sander. I can say that I got a lot of satisfaction after it was over. I don't know if it is like cancer or not after the knife begins to corrode and is removed from the outgassing knife if it keeps rusting more? The top quarter inch of the master blade was so pitted I almost gave up. I did have a Dremel tool to help with the springs.

The Mini-Trapper cleaned up fairly well, not as polished as your pretty Coutel, but cleaned off the rust and something that was stuck to the clip blade, it actually chipped off with a dental pick. Tuned up the edges with ceramic sticks and a strop, good to go.
The little wooden handled A.W. Wadsworth sharpened up very well, had to reset the kick, the point of the blade was way too high and by the way, that one has quite a strong spring, like the old Queen City that I made friends with a week or so back! The A.W.W. even has half stops.
Now the little Case Tested is a real mess, the back spring is broken, if I could find a spring it would definitely become a real project. I suppose I need to remove the outgassed handles if I intend to do any thing with it.

I found quite a few knives last weekend at the OKCA show. I posted some Schrades the Schrade forum but that was probably less than half the number of knives that I got, especially since I keep finding more. I found a whole bunch of project knives and a Buck 120 that I bought a couple of days ago and I had completely forgotten about them. I guess I'm not as organized packing up to go to a show and then packing up and coming home. I think Ray (Paladin) must be a little more organized than I am, if only because he sold me a whole bunch of parts knives and project knives so he didn't have to tote them back to Texas! Thanks Ray!

25 were made, 7 with long pull and 18 with nail nick.

Yesterday we went antique shopping.
Queen #15 Winterbottom Bone Half Congress Queen Steel Tang Stamp No Etch - 1957-1960. Looks like the blades were highly buffed.

Figured Burl wood handle scales with Stainless Bolsters and Pins with Lanyard opening. Full tang design is 7" long and comes in a Black lacquered solid wood display box. Note=not my pictures. Hope that is okay? Need the year and possibly the production numbers.

Love the burl wood handle. Awfully nice looking knife. The fellow over at Deepwoods Ventures, who makes carving knives, makes beautiful burl wood handles. And that box adds to it as well.
