Looks white to me. They were only made for four years. I have them recorded as being made from 1980-1984. Both of mine are cracked at the shield. Many I've seen did that.

Jerry, Do you have any documentary evidence that Ivory handles knives were in the period 1983-1984?
Joseph Richard Kerr in the book "600 Scout Knives" wrote that they were produced in 1980-1983. But when I looked through the "Boy's Life" magazines for 1983 and 1984, I did not see any knife with Ivory handles there.

Okay I finally got this High carbon Steel USA Mystery knife in this week. It's in pretty good shape though not nearly as spectacular as I had pictured in my mind. So I probably paid too much for it, but still it's the first one like it that I have and I've already been guilty of over paying for something on several different occasions so What the hey! Here she is.

These full milled liners are what pushed me over the edge on this one.

Doglegg, if I had to take a wild guess I would say that the rear handle had been replaced. I don't know that but the front handle has much more wear on it so that would be my guess. The football shield on the front would ,I think make that a fairly old knife.

Greg, since it was made for Sears, I think that's where the football shield comes from. However my High Carbon Steel doesn't have a football shield, nor does it have any milling on the liners. I'm going to guess they are from two different time frames.

...jerry, that's the shield that my 2 "mystery" Camillus whittlers have.one is a "72" pattern, the other is a split-back, both have smooth caramel bone handles and worked liners.the 72 is marked "sword brand" and 4 line on the master, and the split-back is marked 4 line only on the master............ ...............

Had this one for a little while hadnt thought to post here till now. I remember having a 72 when I was young. Bought it at the Lumber Yard. I dont remember what happened to it.

Pretty good condition for it's age, David. Based on those "Brownstag®" handles, I'd say very late '50s to mid-late '60s. Ever notice how these 72's were used and you almost never see a "sock drawer" knife.

I picked it up over the winter at a gunshow for a sawbuck. Only one I have seen.
