Camillus Hawkbill - WWII ????

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Steel liners, steel pins, steel bolsters, half-stops and wood handles. Combine all that with the tang stamp and to me, that would indicate WWII. What say you??

Knife could easily be pre-WW2. All steel construction does not really indicate a wartime made knife. Many knives were made pre-war with all steel construction to keep retail prices down and to make a stronger knife. Many large folding hunters and working man's knives such as pruners as well as small boy's type knives will be found with this construction dating way back before WW2. Yours has obviously been re-pinned so the blade may or may not be original to the frame.

..just dug mine out and looked, jerry, it is the short line stamp(1946-1950), so it's not as old as your's!!.... ::tu:: ...........
