Help me identify this knife!
This is a Case knife - markings indicate that it is from 1978. It belonged to my Grandfather - I cannot find another one like it. Help! I would love more history!

I have an idea for you...
When all else fails, contact Mrs. Shirly Boser.
She is Case's historian who has at her disposal lots of resources that may be helpfull... [email protected]
Make sure to include a picture of the knife and tang stamp if possible. ...or at least describe the tang stamp. Also, make sure to report your findings please
I recall seeing a few all metal encased Case knives that are similar. Most had silver colored handles though, and I don't know squat about them

I just received the following email from Ms. Boser - Case Historian - this is her reply:
This is the '278 pattern which we did a lot with in the '70's. I don't
remember this particular one being done with gold metal, but we did one
with brass covers and scroll work engraving similar to this. Our knife
in brass had an oval in the middle of the mark side cover which was
blank inside for initials or whatever.
Your knife doesn't look like it one of these so I'm not certain what you
have. My feelings are that the special work was applied after the knives
left the factory, or was something that was done special and not
recorded. It's very attractive from what I can see.
