I drive an old rusty truck, and an old car, and mow my lawn with a really old lawn mower, but I have a really nice pocket knife and a really good study Bible. I could have retired full time if I quit the pocket knife thing but I'm having just too much fun. ___Dave
Great post. I love the knives pictured above. I would have imagined the purchaser of that one day haul to be riding in a shiny new truck.
Priorities demand our money. “Knice” priorities with the Bible and the blades.

Picked up this old Camillus today on the cheap from the local Bottomfeeder Bargain Basket.

djknife13 wrote:I went to the Janesville show determined to buy one nice knife instead of a half dozen pretty good ones or a dozen average knives. That plan blew out of the water almost right away when I picked up the IXL pearl whittler for $35 and the mint "Western States" cracked ice and the Buck conversion for just under $100 each. The rest I got piece meal for a little more serious money but still awefully good prices. The green horn jack with the prop shield is a Holley. The bone jack with the Fed. shield is an Electric Cut. The Stag German single blade is a HUBA, and yes it's real stag. The HS&B slot knife came from an antique shop on the way home and was the most expensive at $240. So much for a game plan and a budget of $500. I go to one actual knife show each year so a little lee-way is expected. This really is a good show and the only large one in my area. ____Dave
Wow, looks like the trip was worth it. Blades and Bible are a good combination.

It is a good stop. Only get there every couple of weeks. I am always happy to find old US made stuff not covered in rust.

Funny you would say that, Lee. I was thinking the same thing.
I think this knife has some age on it. Were the Brits thinking about boys knives back in the day? Or is that a Yankee concoction?
I think I'll put it in your thread just because it looks "Boy Knifey". :D
Thanks.

No doubt it was being done over the other side of the pond Joe ::nod:: ... I have a Wostenholm, Fenton and a Butler that were Sheffield boys knives :)

FRJ there is something warm and rich and mature about those stocks. Comfortable to hold.

Oh boy Joe, that's a dandy Rodgers right there! I always enjoy those blade etches and squared-off kicks. Of course, that worn bone is pretty awesome as well. ::tu::

Very nice little knife, Joe! ::tu:: Certainly appears to be fairly old (early 1900s?), with the square kick and the clean and square joint. Beautiful bone color as well.

This was a gift from a friend who's dad, Don, took it on himself to step in and help fill the void in my life after my dad, also named Don, died of cancer. Don's wife is selling her home and needs some work done so I stopped by to see what I needed to bring next week to ready the house and the son handed me this knife as a thank you gift for being a good friend to his dad. Don got the knife at an auction years ago and asked me to clean it up a little for him and I have and admired it for years but never mentioned actually wanting it. I figured it would go to one of Don's grandsons some day. Don died about 5 years ago and left a void nearly as wide as my dad did. I'm thrilled to have it as a keepsake of someone who was an unbelievably good roll model to me. It's a Simmons Keen Kutter English Jack. It will be stored in my safe in a drawer next to my Dad's hunting knife.____Dave

Dave your English jack is a real beauty and the fact that it belonged to a positive role model in your life just increased the value to priceless. Hope you enjoy it for the rest of your life :D

Keep your edge sharp, otherwise you just can't cut it.

Looking for Carrier Cutlery and early Robeson with Elmira tang stamps.

Beautiful knife with a lot of meaning for you, Dave! ::tu:: It would be nice if you could post a few more photographs of the knife in the Keen Kutter thread.

Evidently you must of been very special to Don for his son to know that you liked the knife. Glad for the both of you.
