Just picked up this (basically new) Case Bose Lockback whittler, 2005 vintage. About as close to custom as you can get in a production knife.

Boker kal 74 arrived today. Can't say it's better than a Ganzo automatic but a tad bit lighter which is nice. Costs a little more too but I'm happy with it!

I'd go with the Boker auto in AUS-8 all day long over the admittedly-sharp but unknown edge-holding of that Ganzo 440.sam eib wrote:Boker kal 74 arrived today. Can't say it's better than a Ganzo automatic but a tad bit lighter which is nice. Costs a little more too but I'm happy with it!
I own examples of both, and plan on upgrading the Boker to S30V at one point, and while the Ganzos fire nicely and seem built solidly enough, the Boker is worth the extra money in almost every way IMO. Ergonomics, easy maintenance, hard and consistent fire, Spartan but effective deep-carry clip. I'm a big big fan of the 74 and Boker's Pacific Rim products don't have the added stigma of coming from a company that, in some cases, flat-out counterfeits certain American/European tactical folders in a direct stab at their prospective customer base. That's the kind of behavior I don't find acceptable in a "new global cutlery industry", and while I have opinions over companies like Boker relying more and more on Far Eastern factories and products, they're still more morally upstanding IMO than a company that will send you a fake Delica with a cheap "axis" style lock for $20 via China Post.
P.S. For anyone in a jurisdiction that frowns upon auto-openers, I have the buttonlock variant in AUS-8 and I can deploy it nearly as fast as any auto I own with a flick of the wrist. The buttonlock has to be fully depressed before the knife would fail the "gravity knife" test so there's virtually no way Johnny Law would be interested, as long as locking manual folders with under-4" blades are OK. A good and cheap way to see if you like the feel of the 74 in hand before upgrading the action and steel.

I just got home from a business trip and waiting for me were several packages. Two new-to-me Case peanuts, a 3220 CV in yellow synthetic and a 6220 SS in what looks to be some sort of red bone. There is a long crack on the front side of the bone. It seems to be just a surface crack and doesn't affect the handle at all. I got it cheap and I think it looks fine. More importantly, I also got my official super secret AAPK decoder button!!

Thanks - and yes, it was a good trip. I did learn that traveling from Pacific time to Central time the day after the spring time change is not smart trip planning. Tuesday morning came waaaay too early. The weather in Richardson was excellent - but unfortunately I was inside the entire time. I didn't even go out at lunch - we had lunch brought in to our meeting.doglegg wrote:Congrats TFL, you seem to be liking the peanuts of late. I do like the Peanuts! One of these days I'll lay them all out for a picture.

Glad to see that the 2018 secret AAPK decoder button is much more "centered" than the 2017 decoder button was.
My 2017 button make me a little dizzy every time I look at it.

Scott, 'mother lode' is an over worked phrase, it is used too often on too many things. But you got a mother lode in the mail. Wow.TripleF wrote:Got a small mother lode in the mail today!!

Doglegg, the blade etching on the Rimfire is awesome!
For my mail call, it's always a good day when I can add a new tang stamp to the pile - and today I did just that with a Camco #533. Neat!
