Ahhh...the old Blue Bone with Red oval Shield...a true Case Classic! Nice deep blue color on that one you got, Squatch.
By now I expect Case (Canoe Department) probably gives you the pick of the litter, no?

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I wish I could get "the pick of the litter"! I love Case knives but I have had a few knives that the Case Quality Control folks should have recycled, in my opinion. Of course the same can be said of most major cutlers. Perfection is elusive. I'll have a couple more newbies to post in a week or two.QTCut5 wrote:Ahhh...the old Blue Bone with Red oval Shield...a true Case Classic! Nice deep blue color on that one you got, Squatch.

I really wish I hadn't seen your post, Sasquatch. Now I'm digging in the couch cushions for change and thinking about which kid to pawn.

Heck, I tried to rent my dog out for stud fees....but he's neutered!Bastler wrote:I really wish I hadn't seen your post, Sasquatch. Now I'm digging in the couch cushions for change and thinking about which kid to pawn.

Then I spent my beer money on knives....now my tab at the bar is maxed out and I'm cut-off 'til I pay it up!

I've been eyeballin' the rent money but it's awful cold out there right now.

The collector's blues.....we should write a song!

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I've just gone through all these pages and the pics are really getting me into this pattern,im more of a Barlow and Stockman coĺlector these days cut can see me trying to find older canoes
I've got these 2 RR ,one the Rams horn, and the other is the High carbon model,im a big fan of carbon steel and work with it most days carving, the carbon versions blades are pretty much double the thickness of the Rams horns blades ,pkus has a really solid snap,it's a real chunky feeling pocket knife,I like it alot and use it most days

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Good lookin' pair of boats ya got there Paul! I too am a big fan of carbon steel, especially for EDC use.
The canoe pattern, to me, is a very traditional pattern. As far back as I can remember the scout pattern and the canoe pattern have been the small folder multipurpose choices in my family. If I ever get tired of collecting canoes I'll start on the scout pattern.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Thanks mate ,I prefer carbon steel as well,it's much easier to keep sharp and I love the way it ages,I'm starting to really like this pattern,it's comfy in the hand as well,I'll probably get a few more, really like the case model with the Indian etched on the bladeSasquach wrote:Good lookin' pair of boats ya got there Paul! Nice. Interesting pin set up. Looks like the center pin is covered by the handles.Sasquach wrote:Some nice lookin' photos Paul!![]()

Queen City. My favorite! Bruno.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
The cigar band is actually a center bolster of nickel silver. I believe the center pin is through the center bolster and polished to inviability like the hinge pins in the end bolsters. The handle material is in two pieces hence the four pins to secure it. All of that is just a logical assumption on my part....I could be wrong.

Nice one....what's the handle material?Sasquach wrote:Added a new boat to the fleet.
Here's a question for you Charlie. Which is your favorite Canoe in your collection? Would love to see a pic of it.
Queen City. My favorite! Bruno.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Bruno, the handle material is jigged black Delrin. Case calls it their "Rough Black Synthetic" and it is similar to the old Case "Gum Fuddy" handles.bdev wrote:Nice one....what's the handle material?Sasquach wrote:Added a new boat to the fleet.

My favorite canoe? That's a really tough question!!!

I love 'em all but I guess, if I have to pick, these two would be my favorites. The first is one that I had customized to my specs and the second is the one I carry most frequently. (The Ol' Yeller Canoe)

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Wow....that's a beautiful knife. The work on it is unique.
I didn't expect to see a yellow canoe but with its carbon steel blades (I suspect) and simplicity, what's not to like?
Both great knives. Thanks for sharing Charlie.
BTW....I have my eye on a butterbean that I like. If I get it, I'll post it.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
You're correct Bruno, the blades on the Ol' Yeller canoe are CV carbon steel. They take a razor edge quick and hold it well. The one in the photo is my third generation EDC canoe.....I wore one out completely and lost one on a hunting trip so this is the third Ol' Yeller Case canoe I've had in my EDC rotation. I also have an Ol' Yeller Sodbuster Jr. with CV blade that rotates into my watch pocket on a regular basis. Good quality EDCs for a working man, traditional, plain ol' good lookin', and oh so useful.bdev wrote:Wow....that's a beautiful knife. The work on it is unique.

The customized canoe was done for me by Texas Case Emporium - Jimmy's Pocket Jewelry. I'm a native of Arizona and I wanted at least one warranty violator in my collection so I created my own design and searched out someone to make it for me. You can take the boy out of Arizona but ya can't take Arizona out of the boy!

Hope to see your new butterbean soon! Great little knives. When I don my monkey suit I usually have a baby butterbean or a peanut jack in my vest pocket.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Sundog and I traveled over to a gunshow in Wells (south central) Minnesota over the weekend and I was able to score my first canoe. This one is a Fight'n Rooster Canoe/Whittler with Mother of Pearl handles. Blade etched 1987. They put on a good gun and knife show there for only a town of 2300 people and actually have it in the High School. How many parts of the country can you do that anymore? Sundog came home with some good stuff too.
