Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
This just in from a fellow AAPK member Gary Kennedy . From 1998, new in the box. Reminds me of the older jigged bone handled Case hunting knives, it even has a vestigial outers type guard on the bottom of the tang. A 647-5, 9 1/2 OAL, 5 in blade. Factory sheath, an older style that I prefer over the newer designs. I checked the current catalog and this pattern is not in it. I would be interested in knowing when this pattern first went into production. Attached a couple of pictures below. Thanks for looking.

Finally got the 1983 New Grind Copperhead 6249 I've been hankering after. Not quite a 'Holy Grail" but certainly in the 'Hen's Teeth" category.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
A whim bid on the auction site a few days ago yielded this one, for under $37 delivered. Some minor corrosion on the blades needed cleaning up, and then I gently hand sharpened them to 7000 grit. As always in my house, no safe queens here. This will be my outdoor-work knife.

That's a fine one! Can't beat the 6375 large stockman in my book, especially in CV.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
This knife was a gift from a gentleman at my church who knows that I collect knives because I frequently show him the knife I carry to church. It is marked Cherokee and Solingen Steel. It looks like a Case 6265 and my Goins book says that Case used a Cherokee mark in 1976 and 1977. Just wondering if someone might be able to confirm is this Cherokee marked knife was made Case or if not who might have made it. It doesn't feel like a Case knife in hand. The blade open and close is not smooth and the snappiness is not what I would expect.
Many thanks for any insight that can be provided.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
Thanks Larry, the handles are made out of natural wood - don't know what kind. The bulge in the middle of the handle (vs. being flat from bolster to bolster) is another thing that seems uncharacteristic for Case.

According to that old thread, your knife is probably a Taylor brand.

Underdawg, love the bones and sheep foot on that one. Great score for the dough.
Ralph, love the Cherokee tang stamp. Great knife all around, but I love unique stamps like that. Congrats both ya.

Ralph, I agree with Ivoryman about the neat looking tang stamp! Interesting story that TwoFlowersLuggage linked to.
