Remove handle advertising

I have seen inexpensive Barlow knives with advertising on their white “plastic” handles. (similar to the handle on this eBay listing) https://www.ebay.ca/itm/NOS-BARLOW-POCK ... SwjbtahewK

Can the blue ad be removed? If so, how? Buffing? Dynamite?

I’m guessing it depends on the knife and the handle. I would think that on most knives you could sand the text out and re-polish the handle but it depends on the handle. Worse case scenario you would have to replace the plastic handles.

I agree. The inexpensive knives I have seen have brass liners and pins. I think they would make decent knives for leaving in the truck etc. I just don’t like the ads. It's most likely they are painted on as opposed to something more permanent. Some high # sandpaper may remove them.

Plastics, including Delrin did not do well being buffed, unless you have a buffing wheel designed for plastics with rouge designed for plastics.
You will need a buffing wheel made from string so it does not build up as much heat as a solid wheel. Caswell is where I got mine.

Another thing you might try is taking a ScotchBrite pad to the ink on the handle, that just might work.

Or you could try hand polishing and rubbing compounds (available at most automotive supply shops). You might end up paying more for the compounds than you did for the knife though.....

I would think that would depend on whether the logo is impressed on the handle or just applied.

I have removed some by simply using Semichrome.

Put it in your pocket for a month or so, that'll get rid of most of it.

If it's smooth plastic try finding a sticker you like and trim it to fit over the ad. I have rebranded many things.
