Now sportkolbs has sold about a zillion knives...

No mention of the serial number. And then look at the question he was asked...HEY!!...it says 1982 right on the shield. Job well done Mr. Sportkolbs.

This seller is, as we have seen, the king of new/old stock of long defunct brands. I think he knows exactly what he is doing, and just plays it like he is too busy.

Sorry, this guy is what eBay deception is all about. Oh yeah, check the shipping price, maybe he's bringing it right to your house himself...whatever.

Yep, that's Mr. Bill Swan. I have only bought from him a couple times because he had what I was looking for and I could get it no where else. I can ship to anywhere in the continental US from my area, Priority mail for $4.05, up to 1 LB. Mr. Swan makes a lot of money from shipping.

He was the eBay Bulldog salesman of 2002 and he is in big with the Parkers. I have also run into a few incorrectly described knives from James Parker. (Silverladdie, Jim Parkers old user name) He is in the same state, yet ships for $5-6 usually. Seems like they throw darts at a board for shipping, Ive seen it at $4.50 to $7.50 all for items under 1 LB.

Just my opinion, they are either getting sloppy or lazy or just don't care. I see too many errors from them.

I did email Roger with there is a shield/handle problem and it is more just a crooked sheild/dealer. Oops, did I say that.

Any way I went to eBay and asked The Dusty Duck, Sportcolbs, Bill Swan the following question. "Since the shield says Knife World 1982, isn't this a 1982 knife?" Lets see if he posts my question with the right answer. Lets just say I handed him a rope, he can either climb out of the hole with it or hang himself. I figure it's a fair question.
This is not to suggest all Tennesseeans are bad apples, every state has their share of.....

, isn't this situation similar to a recent post, where a new neighbor had a $25,000 knife, didn't realize it's value, one of our members did know the value and we all told him to follow the golden rule and notify his neighbor. With that in mind, if I notice a "mistake" on the part of the seller, shouldn't I at least notify that seller? Isn't that a part of what we are about, not to play eBay cop, but to share our knowledge? I did that recently on a Bulldog toothpick that was listed as a 1st generation and I knew it to be a third generation (they did not start making toothpicks until then). The seller added my information to his listing immediately. I bought the knife and was rewarded with some of the prettiest Pearl I have seen in a long time.
Mr. Swan did post my comment to his listing.

Buyer Beware just doesn't always work, for newbies or experienced collectors alike.

Well done Hukk...

I wasn't on Mr. Swan just because of that minor error, as many of his other listings certainly display far more questionable verbiage regarding age and/or materials.

In retrospect, I should've emailed him, and didn't, because I wasn't planning on buying from him. A poor effort on my part.

But Hukk did the right thing...and helped make the correction for those who may not have known...and one who should have known. So, my AAPK hat is off to someone who handled it properly.

Thanks for the compliment Bill. I must say that I agree with everything that Roger said.

I have bought 3 knives in the last month from silverladdie (James Parker using Jim Parkers old user name at eBay) with incorrect descriptions. However, I knew what I was buying, so I'm OK with that, they book for far more than I paid for them. The evidence is in his dad's book, Pocket Knife Traders Guide vol. 7. Granted, the descriptions did not boost the value of the knife. For example, a Bulldog antique elephant ivory 3 blade Anglo-Saxon was described as being a 1998, first year they came out. The knife had a double dog head on the tang, making it 2000 or later. Book says double dog head was introduced in 2000. 1998 should have 1998 on tang with a standing dog. He of all people should know this. I bought it for a future scrimshaw project and it was cheaper to buy this than to have one I bought rehandled when you include the cost of a knife. I guess we need to watch each others back and ask for advice. Once again, Thanks!

Thanks for posting that AND for the information Bill. I was looking at that knife on ebay myself. I'm starting to collect cripple creek knives and am new to this. As for the shipping I see a lot of these high shipping costs and ebay and wonder "what's up with that". I'll definitely watch this guy in the future.
