I picked up this Schrade Scrimshaw Barlow 206 awhile back at an antique shop for a few bucks. One of the original plastic handles looked like it had come into contact with something very hot, as it had a deep melted indentation in it. I was going to rehandle anyway, so I pays the man the money and into my pocket it went. I had made a couple of turned pens on my mini lathe a couple of years ago from a material called Inlace Acrylester $$ Money $$, which is a clear resin impregnated with actual pieces of shredded US currency.

The pens turned out great, and I thought a knife rehandle may be worth trying with this material. I got it done today and here are some pictures of it. You never know what you are going to get with this material, as the finished contours are totally different from what it looks like in the 7/8" x 7/8" x 5" blank that is purchased. It is little bit difficult to work with, as the material is kind of "chippy" if you are not careful when cutting and drilling it.

This knife had the keyhole slot bolster, which was still good and tight, so I reassembled back to original. The scrimshawed bolsters would have made it difficult if not impossible to repin in the conventional way.

This material is worked as usual for acrylics, progressive sanding with finer grits down to 1500, and then I used Flitz polish for the final shiny finish. If you look closely, some pieces of the numbers, and the borders on the currency are visible.

That is just the best looking modern handle material I've seen in ages. If you ever decide to do another on spec (Barlow or any pattern) please return to this thread and PM me. I'd love to have that as an EDC. Great job!

The form I bought this piece in was a 7/8" x 7/8" x 5" pen turning blank, was $7 and change. I will be able to cut several sets for a Barlow size from that.
