Picture request for a 505 next to a 309

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

Picture request for a 505 next to a 309

Post by Corso »

I've been searching without any luck for a comparison pic of a 505 with a 309 with the main blade open

having daily carried my 309 for year I'm interested in a lockback option but there doesn't seem to be a 3" closed lockback out there that will do putting down the 309 justice.

Any one own both and could take a picture for me?

Corso, I only own one of each, 1980’s vintage, but the sizes should be right. OH

In the past, there have been times when I have carried both of these knives. I like both and never felt like there was a time when I wish I had the other knife. But, you also need to know that my duties are very light - opening boxes, envelopes & clam packs, cutting the tags off a new shirt, etc.

I say do both on alternate days!

I'm torn the 505 might be a little small due to its shape, maybe for a lockback the 503 is my limit

Corso, the Buck 505 is definitely too small for my taste, too short. A Buck 309 is minimal (I carried the one in the photo a very short time as an EDC), it works best as an occasional, dress pants pocketknife. OH

This may help some - 505, 503, 501. OH
Ps The photo looks keystoned, but the left side (points and rulers) were lined up on a straight-edge - the keystoning is due to camera angle.
