Here are 3 #72 pattern yellow Delrin handled knives. I bought them individually on ebay all after the 2007 closure. Note that one has a slightly shorter match striker pull and it is the only one marked "72" on back tang.
Are these likely from before 2007 ? or ones that were assembled from parts after closure ? if a difference can be seen ??
Also "Ole Smoky" Jigged Delrin or bone ?

Except for the blade etch, both of my Yello-Jaket 72s are dead ringers for your top one, with the the swedging and the "72" marked on the pile side of the blade. Mine have the standard "Yello-Jaket" etch on them, though it is very faded on my user knife.

I believe the Ole Smoky is bone. I've been on the hunt for one.

The 72 scout is listed as a 1047.
The scout blades do not have a number stamped on them.

That's interesting, a 72 Sword Brand, new to me. Always amazed at the different ones that show up. Greg, am I seeing 4 small pins at the corners of the handles? This ought to put Jerry into full search mode, shoot, he may have one laid back somewhere!

Phillip Jerryd and I have already consulted on this one and he does indeed have one marked high carbon steel, but these have thrown a bit of a curve into the 72 time line . It may require some adjustment.

Sure would like to get my hands on some catalogs from the 1930s. Especially the late '30s. (37, 38, 39)

...I do have one #72 with the pen blade paired with the primary blade that has "sword brand" mark on the primary blade, 4 line stamp on the pile side, it also has worked liners, 4 pointed oval shield and smooth caramel bone!!..... ..............

Nice knife
It has the same set up as first generation Camillus with different nail nick.
The Schrade or Imperial ones were 9494.

Yes but it lacks the bilateral saber grind. I do think it is from the same time as the early 72's which i think is just after WW II ?
This knife supposedly came from a display in the Camillus factory lobby.

Well I thought I was going to be busy today but that didn't pan out, so I'm sitting at the computer going back through some of my favorite old threads of which this happens to be one. I notice on page 8 that Jerryd has provided a rough draft of a 72 time line. I quickly made a copy of it and scurried off to the knife room to compare my prizes to the list and discovered that I am still lacking quite a few. I do think that we could add a new entry to the list though. There seem to be enough of these out there,even though they are a mystery, that we could add them as a must have category. This makes my second one and I know of a few others. The 1047 Boy Scout with Double sided Sabre ground Master. I nabbed this one last night.

Yes indeed Jerryd! I think we have seen enough of these to classify it as a must have knife for 72 collectors even though we don't really know why it exists.
