And please, please, please do not clean the knife. Cleaning means many different things to many different people and you will find many discussions on 'cleaning' here by searching. To me, I would never touch that blade with anything more than some MetalGlo or Semichrome and a soft cloth. To do anything more is to destroy the character of the knife. If there is still an etch, I would not even go that far as the etch will be lost. Just my opinion but New York Knife was likely the finest knife maker in the USA at one time.

Hugh,another super knife.I collect etched folding hunters and that would fit nicely with my bunch.Metal polish shouldn't hurt the etches.If you ever let it go,keep me in mind.

Hugh don't clean the Knife. If you sell it they can, but you can't unclean it. Perfect as is.

Hugh - WOW - what an amazing collection your grandfather left to you and thanks for sharing it with us ... He no doubt was an educated collector with a great eye given the knives to date!! I can only echo the others though - please do not clean the knives for many reasons!! Old knives with patina have character and history... the mint knives earlier in the thread are just really special - mint knives of that kind are rare finds!!

I must agree. Knife blade does not need simichrome. It looks better now that it will after rubbing with simichrome. I put on a very thin coat of "Rust Free" which is an AGRussell product specifically for protecting blades. You use a minute amount such that a 2 ounce bottle lasts a life time.

HG: I suspect most collectors hope that someday one of their heirs will understand and treasure their collection. I know that is my hope, and my meager collection is not worthy of being on the same table as ANY of the knives you have shown. Your grandfather's collection is not something that can be ordered and received a few days later - it takes decades of dedication to assemble a collection as outstanding as yours. I salute your grandfather for what he accomplished and I salute you for recognizing the gift he has given you.

I always assumed this was its own brand, but they were produced by Winchester?

Hugh that KeenKutter is a knife I've never seen before. I know that KeenKutter had a K1920 pattern that mirrored the big Winchester 1920 coke bottle pattern knife. Never seen a lock blade 1920 with the "L" designation.

Keen Kutter was a line of knives and such produced by E. C. Simmons Hardware of St. Louis. Big company and they contracted their knives out. At some point Winchester owned at least part of Simmons. They did make many of the Keen Kutter knives during the time of their ownership or part ownership. May have made many of the knives prior to their ownership. I think WWII caused Winchester to pull out and concentrate on military production.
Hope I got all that correct. If not, I'll blame it on a brain poot.

That's interesting. I went back and looked at my Grandfather's typed list. He actually had Winchester originally, but lined through it and replaced with "Keen Kutter"

The "Googles" didn't have any results with K1920L either.
