Scott, I wonder, if you surveyed the boys, which type of tool do they prefer to work with e.g. knife, hatchet, something else. Or perhaps they have no preference just using whatever is suitable for the task at hand. Idle curiosity on my part.

Hey Scott, didn't hardly recognize you with a coat on!
Must be a little cool down your way.
It's 33 here in the Panhandle.
I can't tell for sure by the picture but the oak you're standing by is probably of the Red Oak family commonly called a Turkey Oak. There are probably a dozen and a half different oaks in Florida and you need to be a real expert to identify most of them. The Live Oak that stays green is the one we all know. The one you have in the picture gets it's name from the shape of the lobes on the end of the leaf, the 3 toes of a turkey foot. There are more lobes on each leaf than 3. We've got one in the yard that has pointed leaves like the one you are standing by, it doesn't put on much of a fall color show.
Maybe Jerryd will come by and get you straightened up.

Hey.....click on the pic and it straightens out, no worries here.
Thanks for the info Philip. I'm thankful you shared. Because of my friends here and time outdoors my knowledge of trees, plants and birds has
grown immensely this past year.....actually, I had no know;ledge of anything more than a cardinal and a pine tree...but I'm rapidly learning and love every minute of it.
