Need Help With 2 Case Jack's - 299 1/2's

Trying to figure these out. My brother-in-law had them in a case together. Both seem to be different years but are both engraved with serial number 005 on the bolsters. He must have kept them together for a reason. I have looked in the guides and cannot find them.

nice knives tank. i havent seen a set like that serial numbered. maybe someone else here might know, but if not, you could email case at wrcase.com and im sure shirley boser, shes the case historian, would have the answer for you. great looking knives

Levine says there is probably no reason for the engraving.

Guess that is why I could not find them anywhere

Sandie I am anything BUT an "expert" but wouldn't there have to be a reason for the engraving?? I'm guessing it's odd to you that these are engraved, so I assume your b-i-l wouldn't have had this done for personal reasons. I don't know, just a thought.

I believe that the red bone 6199-1/2 is from the 1987 red bone mint set, a limited edition set released by Case with some numbered sets and some standard plain sets. A total guess would be 500 numbered sets and 2,500 plain sets. Shirley at Case may know the details. It was a set of 6 or 7 knives with red bone handles. Then there was a 1988 set with green bone.

The 3299-1/2....

The 3299-1/2 was discontinued as a standard Case pattern in 1977. Yours is from 1986. I vaguely recall a SFO being made in the 80's of these knives but not numbered.

I also seem to recall some of those 3299-1/2's being used in a numbered set with several other knives, possibly a SFO for either SMKW or for Briley Cutlery.
