1965 - 1969 CASE XX with no model#? Celluloid Scales?

Post by TripleF »

So, check this.....
No model number and one side of the scales is degrading ......while other side is nrmt.
Should I remove the breaking down side?

Seller said it may have been a lunchtime knife for one of the Case employees....

Any insights?

That material won't outgas like celluloid but I see no reason to leave it on the knife. It won't look any better with time. 32048 pattern.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Standard production Case knife, 32048 SP. During that ere the yellow and white handle materials would shrink like crazy. Seems like it was maybe 1972 before Case started using yellow delrin that would not shrink or degrade.

Scott I sent an older stockman with similar handles in a few years ago and Case would not replace the shrinking handles.

Case will replace them but it is not considered a warranty repair - they will charge for it.

case replaced the handles on a 1972. $12.00 for the material and $20.00 for the labor, plus shipping and hey polished the blades ::tu::

I was out in the garage today and I have a 62048 frame with good Delrin handles - not yellow on each side. If you would like to try your hand at repairing this knife I can send you the frame. If you watch Dale's video in the tutorial section about taking a knife apart this isn't that hard. If you want the knife just pm me your mailing address.
