Case XX 5172 bulldog

I am having trouble with the vintage of a casexx 5172 bulldog.The shield has an open c and a tall S. It says hand made in usa, but it's not on the tang. It;s on the opposite side of the blade from bulldog. Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

welcome to the forum! does the stamp casexx have u.s.a. beneath it? if not, it's 1957-1965.
