Old Fish Tail Knife

Got this old knife in a junk box and thought it was just that, but have been looking at it closer. About 3 1/2" long and has cigar band pearl handles that are checkered and have scroll work on them. The kris blade has a knob on it that locks into a hole in the backspring when opened. You release the blade by pushing a flange on one side of the bolster. The spring and locking mechanism still works great. I don't see a maker's mark on it. Anyone know who made it? When? Where? The top of the pearl handles is good on each side, only the bottom is bad. May try to come up with something and have this repaired. I know the art work can't be duplicated at an affordable cost. I have some ivory from old piano keys and may go that route. All comments appreciated.

I believe it was made in France although by whom I have no idea. I have a knife very similar to it with the threaded bolsters and same lock mechanism only mine you have to get your fingernail under the spring.

I would go with France also, great knife with nice carved pearl which you don't see often. Just my opinion but I would not do anything to it.

I'm no expert on this stuff but France is the first thing that popped into my mind. I'm with Mike. I wouldn't do anything but clean off the grime and grub. It's a very cool knife.

Going with the French assessment, I have seen that style of MOP referred to as "French Cut."
