That's a fine deer! Your cuz looks like he could be huntin' here in Florida, the way he's dressed. Compare his outfit to what GDogg's grandson is wearing. Was he hunting in Illinois today or was that somewhere further south?

Actually across the river in the South-Western tip of Indiana. When my folks were still alive, we went down in that area for Thanksgiving and stayed at home for Christmas. Many is the Thanksgiving when I was running around outside in my shirt sleeves.

That little ten acre plot where my cousin and her husband live is quite productive. This is my cousin's granddaughter with the deer she harvested on Black Friday. I think she's a senior in high school and is a very good shot.

Nice to see others are also getting out into the deer woods over the holiday weekend, those pics and smiles are the best.
I was able to connect on this mature doe Saturday morning while hunting my brothers property in west central Illinois. Used a homemade osage selfbow
with a viburnum shoot arrow tipped with a 2 blade steel head. Had a 16 yard quartering away shot and the arrow entered behind the shoulder and broke the opposite side leg when exiting dropping her in her tracks. I've had arrow shot deer drop within site after running 50-60 yards before but this is the first one that fell in its tracks and expired within seconds for me.
Was a great weekend hunting with 2 of my brothers, eating well, downing a few cold ones and enjoying nature from the comfort of the cabin.

By the looks of those backstraps that was a mature doe! I had a doe drop on her nose Saturday afternoon but it was from a .243 through the spine. Shootin' 'em high in the shoulder usually eliminates having to track one plus it doesn't mess up the heart. Your arrow must have got into the spine on its' way through.
Jerry, you need to go on over to your cousins and help thin the herd. There aint nothing better than a big plate of fried venison for supper!

Started out with Esbit fuel cube stove but switched to the MSR Pocketrocket canister fuel stove.. Heats faster/quicker.. So as we get into the cold stuff, we are able to have a hot lunch on the trail.. Works GREAT!!! John

Took two guests hunting this past Thursday, young fellow I’ve mentored over ten years now (no longer a student hunter, but a hunting partner) and my old Ops Officer from our OIF deployment- he’s been a deer hunter for two years, in his third season. Both shot does Thursday and cleaned them; I helped as needed. Just touched up the edge on my old Western Black Beauty F66 - owned it 50 or 51 years this Christmas. OH
Ps Mark is cleaning his deer with a Buck 103 (think I had any influence?)

Thanks Phil. Dogg, he was 14 when his Dad brought him by, 15 the first time I took him hunting. He is 25 now, has a good job, is buying a house, and has a very nice girlfriend he'll probably marry. He is a very squared away young man. OH

Was hunting for whitetail bucks last week on the PA antlered deer opening day. Didn't see any to shoot but did have the thrill of seeing these guys walking around last Monday and Tuesday. The elk have their own season and tags issued by lottery and are very limited. They are awesome to see in the woods I havta say.

Kudos to you TripleF for the lessons and good times your fostering in those youngsters, the outdoors is a great place for kids of that age.
