This fellow makes his own Damascus. I have had this for quite a few years. Gutted an Elk and quite a few Deer and Pronghorn... Maker is in Salina, Utah. Just 18 Miles North of Me! (In fact I am pretty Certain Chris made the Damascus steel in the Dale Strickland Knife I posted just a few days ago below this post..)

Hiya Dave,

That looks like a comfortable, beefy grip on that beauty. Are those bolsters unetched damascus, or mokume ?

Can you tell us the composition of the damascus ?

I will have to go see Chris and ask him. He has no phone. I will get back to you! I visited him on the lunch hour and took photos of him making damascus... got an Education. Here is what he told me: Bolsters are unetched damascus . The composition of the damascus is roughly 55/60 % 01 Tool Steel and A-36 Mild Steel. This particular knife is Right and left hand twist with a random twist going down the middle. Bolster pins are also damscus. Cartusch is engraved . Handle is Ironwood Burl.
I took a lot of photos of him forging a blade. I will post a few of them.

It's a beauty and the design is comfortable as well as completely functional. I'd say that one is a keeper!
