Need help with this Case pattern number

Hello all! Needing help identifying the pattern number for this Case Barlow. It is single blade, smooth black composition handles and dated 1972. All I can make out of the pattern is "9 1/2." I have heard these might have been contract knives made by Utica? Any ideas?

The knife looks like the frame has been reworked. The blade number prolly was 62009.

I found this information in the book "Collecting Case Knives" by Steve Pfeifer.

I would say the pattern number should either be 21009 1/2 or maybe 61009 1/2. Not sure what Case used as a number for those handles but the second number should be a 1 because of the single blade configuration.

Edit: That would be if the knife were in fact correct which it is not.

The posted knife is a cobbled knife. Original Case blade in a ??? frame.

Number one, Case never made a single blade barlow.

Number two - note the lack of handle pins.

Number three - yes, in the XX era only, Case sold some barlows with black composition handles. But these were all two blade barlows (see number one).

See the photo for an example of one of these. They were actually made on contract by Utica.

Also, Case never made a barlow with the pattern number beginning with "2"...the sawcut black barlows were sold as 62009, 62009 1/2.

These Utica contract barlows had "sawcut" black handles and were sold as 62009 1/2 patterns, similar to the way rough black handles were sold as "6" knives with bone handles.

Thanks for the information! In a way, I wish Case had made a one blade Barlow. This knife sits nice and flat in the pocket. I'll probably use it as an edc.

Yesh, it's odd that they never did, especially in the pre-WWII era when almost all knife manufacturers made both single blade and two blade barlows.

Just curious. Why does Case not want to divulge who made all of their contract knives? We know there were several makers of the 0045, and Camillus made some of the yellow handles, rumors of Kabar and the folding hunters. There are no doubt many others besides this one. Is there any kind of list that has ever been put together? If Case has that information do they not want to officially disclose it?

I have a Case single blade barlow.. Under their Standard Knife Line they did in 2010.. Spear blade and Brown bone.. Case Item No. 10503.. John
