Thx LongBlade for the kind words & Peanut OMG SIR!!! That is Smashing looking Winterbottom on those obscure brand Sunfish knives & That Case Bros is Just Killer man . I once owned a John Chatillion Sunfish before in stunning "Picked" bone that I sold to Mr. Scott King along time ago. Your Knives are just plain Wonderful Roger and I know most folks might call these "Wormgroove Green bone" or whatever,,,,but too me Roger,,,That is classic "Winterbottom" & I cant thank you enough for sharing your pics & knowledge with us.

LongBlade, I may be wrong about John's Hatch knife BUT I can sure see a Resemblance in Jigging pattern to it compared to other Winterbottom knives. I do know his knife doesnt fit the "NORMAL" for as what we are used to seeing in Winterbottom. I am 99.9% sure its genuine stag too. Nevertheless, Johns knife has that Unusual "Cross Hatch" jig that is Scarce to find on any knife and is a Wonderful treat to see NO MATTER what we actually call it, LOL. Some Bone/Stag knives are so Unusual to me that it just screams,,,,I gotta keep staring at it,,,LOL

Picked up this Queen fish knife, tang stamp dates it to late 50's, really nice bone.

FYI:
In the early 1950's,Winterbottom supplied Bleached Bone Material to the Fender Guitar Co. in Fullerton, CA.
This material was used on their then-new Electric Guitars and Basses, with slots cut into them to guide the strings (called the "Nut" at the base of the headstock and neck.
The sound of the Fender Broadcaster, Esquire, Nocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass, and Stratocaster shaped the sound of Country Western Music...and then later in Rock & Roll Music.

I picked up a new one with Winterbottom bone covers so I’m resurrecting this old thread. This large (4 inches) stockman the only Utica knife I’ve ever seen with Winterbottom covers so despite its obvious flaws (and it was cheap! ) I bought it. I’m not very familiar with Utica so not sure how old it is. Has anyone else seen a Winterbottom Utica Kutmaster?

Nice looking stockman Ken! Bone handled Kutmasters always get my interest but the Winterbottom examples are few and far between in my experience and much more desirable. Here is a Muskrat that I no longer own.

Thanks Wayne. Nice to know someone has seen a Kutmaster having Winterbottom covers. Your muskrat is in much better condition. I have a Kutmaster muskrat with jigged bone covers somewhere that’s never been sharpened and no signs it was ever carried, but the blades have some rust on them from neglect before it came into my possession.

Thanks ! Some really nice examples on this thread . I’m adding one more Queen fixed blade .Not really sure if it is winter bottom bone .I’m not a expert collector .lol It could be stag or some other bone.Maybe some one with more collecting experience will come by and identify it correctly .

Hey Guys, I read this article that was in Knife World (http://www.knife-expert.com/bonehand.txt) and I dont quite understand if "Winterbottom" handles from the 20's or earlier are Genuine Deer Horn or Cow Bone???
What you guys think? This article calls it BOTH in my opinion..
I am thinking that some NOT ALL,,, Winterbottom actually come from Deer Horn Stag which I find to be very cool indeed

Ken, I have one just like it! The spey on mine has no snap, but otherwise it’s great. On one side mine is the same color as yours, but on the other side it’s much lighter. So now we know there are two!

That Muskrat is fantastic! I too have a Kutmaster with jigged bone scales that I really like, but a Winterbottom bone example would really top the cake.
