Ivoryman wrote:Good scores all over the page. Always like to see the new stuff. Thanks for all the posts everyone. This unique Gunstock pattern Frank Buster F'n Rooster came today. Never seen a rounded off gunstock. Love it. No poky corners. The bone grabbed me, and the blades were cool, the low rider shield is like nothing else I have. Pretty smooth operator and action, bone is red in the right light, and fit and finish as good as any I've seen. Great finishing. Nice knife overall.
Gorgeous knife Ivoryman!

Thanks Sunknife It's just a el cheapo , but I thought the jigging on it was pretty. It doesn't belong on the same page with your gorgeous knife. Sorry about that. ::tu::

Thanks Homer, Railsplitter. Appreciate the sentiments. Sunknife, that is one fine looking Giraffe Northwoods. Love that bone. Congrats.

I have a dear friend that keeps telling me I'm an ideas man. What usually happens though, is I'll get an idea for a knife and the dirty bugger will have one made while I'm still thinking about.

I have examples of every knife on this page: SanRenMu, Rough rider, Hawthorne, Colt Buckshot, Land & Fight'n Rooster.
What has always amazed me is that if you want to make them users, the SanRenMu, Land, Colt Buckshot & Rough Rider are the best, or said a more acceptable way, the Northwoods knives or F'nR's do not cut any better, hold an edge longer or hold up any better than the 4 China made brands.
I still buy expensive knives like my mammoth ivory Hawthorne because i really like them. Except for Mercator & Mora, the knives i use when working outside on my property are the above mention China made knives because they reliably cut so well.
Another odd 'fact' is that i have not been able to loose one of these sub $20 knives, but i have managed to loose a few expensive type knives. J. Halfrich Small Woodsman, "Where are you ?" Time to come out. You've been hiding for 6 years now.

I'll respectfully disagree with one thing.

It is way easier to put a hair-splitting edge on some Frank Buster or GEC carbon steel than it is to freshen up that Pacific Rim 440A on the Colts or RRs. And I say this as an owner of plenty of examples of both kinds. I haven't gotten any SanReMus yet, but I have two Ganzo autos and one came with a butter knife edge. It was quite a job to put an acceptable edge on that knife, although it does hold it fairly well under light duty now.

I agree that there's no reason to discount an Asian knife out of hand when it is built reasonably well and can do the job, but my preferences in materials and construction still favor the American and European brands. Now if RR rolls out a smooth tobacco bone 4-blade Congress with 1095 all the way around, that might be a game-changer for me.

Hey Koot Joe, where is the Hawthorne? I see a Lincoln Jack in Giraffe above. No Hawthornes though. Maybe I need to start wearing glasses, I'm missing it. Some like to carry the cheap throw away knives. That's their prerogative. I don't tell anyone what to carry, think they can figure that out on their own. I like to carry the beauties, the rock solid American made by my fellow countrymen and national brothers. I like to pull out my knife sometimes to appreciate the art or the beauty of the materials and aesthetic and I don't get that from a $15 Sanremu. I like the feel of a well made, quality knife in my hand and to use, also to let people see if they want to check it out. People don't compliment my Chill or my SAK for it's beauty. Ever. They do my pretty old Case and GEC, Moki, Northwoods, etc. Difference is night and day. And for some reason I like my money going to Pennsylvania instead of across the Pacific to people who don't like US. I'll carry a pretty one that's not a bargain brand for you today.

I know your right I've seen young journeymen electricians try to strip wires ,make stresscones and other H.V. joints with cheap knives ::shrug:: when the glued on scale fall off or they spend most of the day trying to keep an edge on these knives they usually end up buying a quality knife to make there money with ::nod:: I know right out of the box or right after a sharpening stone they are sharp, hell I can sharpen a butterknife till razor sharp BUT will it hold an edge ::hmm:: NOTHING replaces QUALITY.............EVER

Fabulous knives Railsplitter, have been looking at them for years but they always sell for about a hundred more than I'm in for. Beauties. Love that red bone.

Thanks guys.

The Ebony one that just arrived yesterday was my fifth Norfolk purchase but I currently only own the two pictured. I paid full Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price for the very first one I bought but I feel that I got reasonably good deals on the other four at $95-$130 less than MSRP.

The Ebony pictured above was an Ebay auction and I was the only bidder so I got it at the starting bid which I feel was a reasonable price.

I recently bought this Northwoods Hawthorne Jack from one of my favorite AAPKer's KootenayJoe ,Mr. Roland Proctor. It was here when I arrived at home today and Is FANTASTIC! Of course Roland being Roland also sent these other two. A little tear drop single blade that I do believe is Ivory handled and a stainless Hen and Rooster gentleman's knife with sheath. Roland you have gone above and beyond my friend. Thank you so much. The Northwoods is spectacular

I almost pulled the trigger on that one you bought. I would have a hard time thinking they get better than that. Roland seems to have good taste.
