pre '40 case pattern #'s question?

pre '40 case pattern #'s question?
i was just wondering if its true that a pre '40 knife has no pattern number? someone told me this but i dont know if its true.

Hello;
First, I am not a Case collector. So this is an interest free on my part answer.
I do not have a date, but older case knives generally speaking do not have pattern numbers stamped on back of master blade, That is from two separate books.

Grand Daughters, The little one had open heart surgery at about five months, looks to be totally recovered. Is'nt technology grand.

This applies to pre WWII Case pocket knives:
On knives with the Case Tested (long tail C) stamp, 98% will NOT have pattern numbers, but a few will.
On knives with the Case Bradford and WR Case & Sons tang stampings, maybe 75% will have pattern numbers....sometimes on the main blade reverse tang, sometimes on a secondary blade tang.
