No offense meant to anyone here, but I cannot understand a Kamp King selling for forty dollars.

If that's the case, then higher quality American made knives are undervalued.

I hear that Charlie, Imperial probably made and sold millions of these inexpensive knives and I see them in varying conditions at every flea market that I go to. The only logic I can find is that somebody had one 60 years ago and is trying to find their youth again and is willing to pay for it. Not me

I agree. I picked up a mint Kamp King and was hesitant to pay the $8 dollars that I paid. Only did it because it was mint and.... hmmm hmm hmmm hm... I have an addiction.

Eric - both of those Schrades are fantastic but the etch on the EO is amazing......I'm stunned!

My grandkids spent the week with us recently, and while we were talking knives and looking at them, came across this one I'd forgotten I had. Thought I'd show it here as its kinda unique because it has some interesting ephemera. The box is postmarked June 10, 1966 (not my knife originally). Had fun explaining to the grandkids about saving box tops and wrappers and sending off for prizes.

Ken that knife brings back some memories! Had one of them for a lot of years, took a heck of a beating and just kept going. What a minty piece!

This isn't the typical knife found in this thread but I think it belongs here. It Is a 1938 Remington pen knife. "Sotal D (drum) & B (bugle) corps, Wisconsin champion." After minimal research I can't find anything about sotal but D&B corps started in 1927 as an activity for the Boy Scout Troop 15 of Racine's Lutheran church in Racine Wisconsin. This knife came in the original box, tissue paper and with a very nice fob. All tied to whoever WDN is. Any other information anyone has I'd love to hear. I assume WDN was maybe the instructor of the D&B Corps?

SOTAL once stood for "Sons Of The American Legion".

The current acronym is SAL. Got started in 1932. It is a separate group within the American Legion family of organizations. (AL, AL Auxiliary and the SAL) Membership is for sons and grandsons of those who served in the military and were eligible for membership in the AL, whether their father or grandfather ever got around to joining the AL or not.

I can see SOTAL/SAL chapters having D&BCs during the '30s and '40s.

At east that is ONE possibility.

A very few 'scout' or utility knives have phillips screwdriver blades. Why do makers continue to make these utility knives with standard screwdrivers for slotted head screws. No one (to speak of) has built anything with slotted screws for decades. There was a military knife offered in the 1940s that already had a phillips screwdriver. I think I understand that the phillips blades are a more difficult and expensive thing to do, but multitools and 'swiss army' knives have them. Why does the iconic 'scout' knife persist in this nonsense?

The only thing I can surmise is that some modern screws accept both flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, and I've read that some tool experts suggest using a Phillips for tightening and a flathead for loosening the modern screw. One advantage a flathead has over a Phillips is universality. In case of emergency, a number of other flat metal objects, such as coins, butter knives or keys, can be used to tighten or loosen a screw. It is much more difficult to duplicate the fit of a Phillips head.
