I have an Imperial but it does not have the usual POV R.I stamp only this P 2170537 / 2281732. Can anyone shed some light on this what appears to be Jack knife style ?

Welcome to AAPK. Those numbers are patent numbers. To find out more just do a search on "patent 2170537" for example.
