KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY

Flea mkts today found my Schrade 897 with a punch blade finally.Also a Case sheath

I hit a couple antique shops today and found these treasures; The hatchet knife was the most expensive at $52 and doesn't have a name readable. The slick black is a Henry Sears and cost a whopping $6, the Horn slot knife is a Wadsworth and Son, Austria and I got it for $10, and finally my prize of the day is the big coke HS&B that cost $12. It does have a small piece of the bone missing on the back scale and they marked it "as is". I would have paid more. I was pretty happy with the slot knife too.____Dave

Wow what a HAUL! That HSB is a classic New York Knife Co knife, probably worth at least fifteen times what you paid for it even with bone missing. Nice!

Ken it's a 307 wrangler, I actually was under the impression it was made by Schrade. . It's a beauty and a big ole boy too, my kinda knife.

They are silver colored so they might be. Is that a clue to who made it? I an going to dig into my hunters and see if I can match anything else on the knife to any I have. I really hunted for any trace of a stamp but came up empty. Thanks Glen. ____Dave

Possibly...I have a hunter (no hatchet) that is similar, with the sparkly covers and what appear to be aluminum pins holding them in place. The knife has a Colonial tang stamp, the curved one, so it is older.

ETA...I found pics I had of it.

Glen, your knife frame and the blade are a dead ringer for mine including pin placement. You have me convinced mine is a Colonial. A Western or Union Cut. would have been nice but I'm happy to have found it. Thanks for your help identifying it. You saved me a lot of digging in my safe with no guaranteed results. _____Dave

The Schrade made knives, had a different main blade.
And three pins in the handle, because Schrade used the Swinden Key System.
Buck found the Schrade knives, too hard to repair for warranty.
Camillus knives have pins through the bolsters.

I hadn't been to a flea market for quite a few weeks, been working on a retaining wall for some time now. Anyways, I dragged our son out of bed early to go with me. Lots of tables and people, but not much quality. Did get a couple bargains:

The scout pattern is an Imperial, pretty full and snappy. The little guy is a Syracuse, neat knife. I was quite tickled with the jewelers/cutlers hammer though. It's got a name stamped into it, W. W. Winchester. The owner? Who knows. I'll be putting it to work either way.

Wow is right that is amazing ~ Antique stores around here wouldn't of had less than $50 on any of them except maybe the Black Stockman, it may of been $40 ...... that is an awesome find and price and lot of knives ~ Envious in California ~

I will agree with peanut740, your knife is a cattleman it has honest to goodness "pocket worn" handles. too. A real HOK!

Here's an old green Schrade 5OT that caught my eye this am at a local antique store. A little TLC and it should be good to go. Rust on the mark side, pile side is okay, may have been in a tackle box. $5 worth of enjoyment bringing it back to life.

Drukia, Love carrying a Cattle Knife - great in the pocket in a very useful pattern.

TF, it is fun to work on them - then use them. Like you and Dogg I sometimes buy oldies just to piddle with them in the shop. OH
