Knife Swap

I really hate to make my first post on this forum a shameless plug but here goes: There will be a knife swap Jan.26 at the Damascus Ar. lodge hall starting at 8:00. This is a pretty informal gathering and our first organized swap. We are hoping to get the public out and liberate some good knives. Dealers setup is free admission is free the coffee is also free. The knives will of course be negotiable (probably not free).
Anyway thanks for viewing and if you have any advice on how to have a good swap feel free to share them with me.

Sounds interesting. I looked in the atlas but can't find Damascus. Where abouts is it?

Damascus is about 20 miles N of Conway Ar located on HWY65. Thanks for asking

Well boys what started out to be a good ole boy knife swap has kinda turned into a Knife Show we now have dealers from Texas and Missouri not to mention the likes of Elmer Pruitt from greenbrier and his buddy Preacher. Its still free admission and free dealer setup and free coffee.
So, if your in the area and got nothing to do just come on down. "and bring
your Queens!"

The Lodge is located 1/2 block off 65 on hwy 285 next to the old Damascus gym. You wiil see it when you turn, and we will have signs.

Hi Jugum

I live in Little Rock and a knifer buddy lives down in Benton. We both want to come to this swap but we are both busy. If you do it again please keep announcing it here. We always want to meet local knifers. Who knows, if enough of us get together maybe we can start a club someday.

Sorry that you can't make it to the show Dennis. There is already talk about making this a regular event (probably annual) the traders from Beebe fleamarket are very excited to have a warm dry place to trade.
And I have been promised that there will be Queens and Schatts there.
I'll have my Schrades, Cases and Hens. We have tried to keep the China knives out of the show but I'm sure some will pop up anyway. This is our first show and I'm sure that we will learn alot about how to organize the next one. Thanks to everyone who has viewed and replied .

I'll definitely be there, I'm just up the road in Harrison. How many tables do you have ? ( Wondering if I'll need the wheel chair, or if I can walk thru/sit down occasionally ? )

I'll be the old bald fart, in overalls. Either on a cane, or the wheelchair....

I'm not exactly sure how many tables right now we have at least 10 . There are more than a few unconfirmed. We do have a wheel chair ramp.
And if you need a chair you can have mine. I'll be the middle aged fart in overalls.(Key Brand).

Well, fellers - today was just like the old days, when we all first started collecting/buying/trading...

How can I describe the hospitality that Keith (Jugum) and his knife buddies showed to everyone ? Where else can you go to an all-knife swap meet, with free dealer tables, free admission to the public, free coffee, donuts and homemade brownies ? Where the dealers (everyone of 'em), have a coupla display cases of rare knives that really aren't for sale - it's just "show and tell" time ? When you walk thru the door, you don't know a soul (at least I didn't think I did), but when you leave, every man-jack in the building shakes your hand, as you leave ?

Yessir, it was small - I counted 12 tables, and the crowd was about 50 people (and I really think every one of them brought some tradin' material, or show and tell). The dealers were smiling and happy - the customers were plum tickled to see knives that they'd only read about. The dealers were giving fair, honest trade-ins for every trade. I think everybody there made a little money - except maybe Jugum and his fellow hosts (they bought way more than they sold). We even had one great feller from Flower Mound, Texas travel all the way. Yeah, I probably bought his gas....

More laughter, than the law allows - I figured we'd get raided, we were havin' so much fun. It turns out, there were 4 or 5 of my old knife-tradin' buddies there - but MAN, they've got old !

I came home with : A small Valley Forge ez-open. Barehead, with a bail, Sheepfoot master, with a manicure blade. (First I've ever even heard of). $20
A very nice LF&C scout knife, with rough-black handles and bail intact. (This one will hafta go to my little brother, tho'). $25
A sweet little Fightn' Rooster jack, with waterfall handles. (It will be sweet, when I get that celluloid off, and clean up the minor damage to the blades).
A current Case 6344, with engraved bolsters, made for the Little Valley Knife Assoc. (Club knife).
A decent 5-digit LB-7, that Jugum has spent some time on, cleaning it up. ( I've got plans for this hefty ole lockback, already. Rehandle, and reshape ala' Muskrat Man).

I'll try to post pic's later, after I rest up. I'm old and tired, right now.

Here's a picture of Keith (Jugum) and myself. I know you'd rather see knives than two ugly hillbillies - I'll do it, but I gotta cook some supper.

All in all, I couldn't ask for a better meeting.

Johnnie, and everybody...
You got no idea how much fun we all had - it was like 20-25 years ago, with the show and tell, good-natured lies, and laughs we all shared. A real Knife Party !

So, here's what I think is the prize of the day, for me. The little Valley Forge EZ-open, with Sheepfoot and manicure blade. My photography seems to get worse, instead of better, I'm afraid. But you guys know what a knife looks like. This one has one "small" chunk of bone missing on the mark side - I'm not gonna even attempt to fix it.

And here's a Fightn' Rooster that is gonna get some help, pretty soon. The waterfall celluloid has already started outgassing. But, it's salvageable, I do believe. How ya gonna argue, when it's offered in trade, for a plastic-handled Kissin' Crane ?

Here's the LB-7 our new member Jugum refreshed... I'm gonna try to re-do this one, like MM has done to those Buck 110's. I've got some curly maple that oughta look good, with those brass bolsters ( I think ).

This is the only new knife I traded for (that I came home with)... current Case SFO, for the Little Valley Knife Assoc. Tang-stamped with Little Valley - there's only a long-tailed C, with the serial # engraved on the blade.

And, altho' I really like this one, sigh...I reckon my little brother will get it - he prefers LF&C over any others. It's small, for a scout pattern, but in awfully good shape.

No I carry this one most the time CASE RAZ but my new favorite is the little guy below. I tell ya thou I have that CV RAZ so sharp I can shave the hair off my arm without the slightest tug. My job thou is real sensitive to knives so at work I had to step down the size of what I'm packin

Well boys how can I write a review as glowing as JR's . We sure had fun. I acquired some new Queens (2 from JR) traded SEVERAL knives . I had planned on selling some knives but brought home more than I took. Had a great vist with JR cant wait to see his shop. The dealers started hitting me up about making this a monthly event. But for now its going to be a biannual event. Our next one is set for July (I need time to save the money). My voice needs to heal ,my eyes need time to resettle back into their sockets. That fellow from Texas had some beautiful knives. I cant tll eveyone how much I appreciate the time and effort they contributed to the event. JR I'll be contacting you soon we have a job coming up soon in Harrison and we can visit.
