Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
That gunstock is sweet! Case has been putting those nice swedges on the 15 pattern for a while. Nice to see it on the big gunstock now. Wish they'd do it on more patterns. I've been contemplating picking one up - guess I'll have to pull the trigger.

That bonestag always catches my attention, lots of character.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Picked up a 92042 SS dated 1984. A little worn, but a nice addition to my growing EDC collection.

I really dig the New Grind blades Case 'experimented with' in the early 1980s...wish they would resurrect that design on the current releases. Nice little MOP 042, dag; and, the nice thing about it being a little worn already is you don't have to worry so much about putting that first scratch on it.dag wrote:Picked up a 92042 SS dated 1984. Thanks. This is actually imitation pearl, but I like it just the same. It's in my pocket right now.QTCut5 wrote:Nice little MOP 042, dag; and, the nice thing about it being a little worn already is you don't have to worry so much about putting that first scratch on it.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
1967redrider got it started on Friday and then gsmith7158 kicked it between the goal posts with his post, " Wow that's sharp! Did you see the 6265 on special for $49.99?". I knew better than to go look but..... Now I have one on order. I justify it by saying I don't have one and it fits right in my 'one of everything' accumulation philosophy.
Oh well. If it doesn't suit my fancy, I feel confident I won't have a problem finding a new home for it.

Well I jumped off into the deep end with this 5171L I think. Hunting me a repair man as we speak. Hopefully she'll show better next time around.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
Greg, that 5171L sure is interesting. Never seen one like it before. Did it used to have something in the deep groove running along the length of the mark side? (My first thought was a lever type lock, possibly for automatic opening like on a Hubertus, or something...either that or a veeeeery long shield!) Love the dark, sawcut stag and the stamped head bolster is also very cool. Intriguing, fascinating knife, for sure. Great score...very nice.gsmith7158 wrote:Well I jumped off into the deep end with this 5171L I think.

It's a Leverlock switch blade Q. It should look like this.QTCut5 wrote:Greg, that 5171L sure is interesting. Never seen one like it before. Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
The 6265 SS that was on special arrived today, I see Greg got his too. It's a nice knife, the secondary blade is a little gritty opening and closing, I'm sure it will clean up with a little lube. I am a little bit disappointed in the handles, they are not exactly like the ones posted on the "special" page of Shepherd Hills. The display picture shows the checkering over the total handle but it looks the ones we got are not quite the same.
Ain't no big thing, but I would have liked it better. Sittin' here thinkin' about it, a handle such as the one in the advertisement would have been much more expensive to produce, so I'll console my self by realizing that mine was that way before they made the bone match the bolsters.
I might just sharpen this one and treat myself to a new folding hunter come deer season.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
espn77,
I put some Lansky sharpening oil on the joint and it got worse, very gritty. Then I ran some hot water through it and blew it out with some compressed air, lubed again and it snaps like it should. A bunch of nasty black stuff showed up on the spring when it was flexed about half way open. I'm happy with it and it is like you said, a nice knife.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
You guys have gone nuts over the big folding hunter's - (love 'em myself) - nice bone color Philip. I own several different makes of them, including Case, but haven't ever cleaned a deer with one - bet they are a bear to clean all the gore out of! OH
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

Ain't a problem, Bruce! Been using my old #39 Queen for years, a little hot water and "all that gore" is gone.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
Here is one I picked up today for reasonable(I think)money. It caught my eye because of the Winchester stamping(deep etch?)on the blade.Seven dot P158L-SSP(1983).Was this Winchester etching a common thing or was this possibly an SFO for some company? As you can probably tell Case knives are not my field of expertise(not sure if anything is)so I figured I would post this here and get some expert input.
