I can easily resist WW2 era Western G46-8s, Western Bailout Bowies, Western W49 Bowies, USN-MK1s, 1219C2s and USN MK2s.

I know I can since I do not yet have 500+ of them. :(

Well then, ZZ, looks like you have your work cut out for you...time to get them photographed and posted for all of us to enjoy along with you. Looking forward to seeing pics of what you've got so far (on your way to the 500 count 'finish line' of being able to resist). ::nod:: ::watching_you::

I need to work on getting better at that.

Part of my shortcoming on that front is that while I have my collection well documented as to what I have, I draw extremely heavy vacuum in organization.

I have large tubs labeled with cryptic identification in black Sharpie such as 1,2,3,4,5...... ::facepalm::

I had an Excel spreadsheet that listed which tub a specific knife was in but since the file was constantly being updated/modified, I neglected to print out a hardcopy. Then when my hard drive died, I had to rely on my tape backups. And do you want to guess which backup tape somehow got corrupted? That's right the "Knife/Sword/Axe/Machete/Bayonet" tape that had all my pictures AND my inventory files. Provenance paperwork is in file cabinets, so it wasn't lost, but a lot of research documentation went down the tubes.

Take for example, when I was looking for a specific knife, Camillus WW2 1219C2 Version 1 Split Nut #3, I had to look in each tub until I found A Camillus 1219C2/USN-MK2 tub and then dig through the tub to find it. When it was not there, then I had to go look for the OTHER Camillus 1219C2/USN-MK2s tub and search through that one.

I'm slowly working my way through the tubs recreating the spreadsheet but it's slow going as I have to re-inventory each tub, writing down the label information from each item.

All in my copious spare time. ::mdm::

Hi,All:
NO! I have never had the good sense, or good fortune to be obsessed with 1 Particular Knife. I am obsessed with one for a while, and then for no good reason jump to another, and start all over again. I tend to get temporarily obsessed with types or categories of knives, and that enables me to get into more troubles, than one knife ever could. "Oh, Ain't it fun though?"

Here one brand that I can't stop buying. The good old Mercator. Have 15 at this time. Added the 2 Damascus one on the left a few weeks ago.

Not sure why that is, they have fantastic saw cut bone, nice bolster stamp, the unique older Queen bolster shape, you know the year they were made, just love the way they feel and carry.

Anyone else can't resist 1 particular knife from 1 manufacturer?
I'm obsessed with the Drake Well Barlows as well...but only because I can never seem to get my hands on one.

Now I know why! ::rotflol:: ::poke::

These pictures are some of my Camillus 72's and their clones. The pictures were taken two years ago. Since then I've added a few to the pile and there are a few customs that aren't shown. A handful or so are Junkers but not many.

Well I put my goggles on and I see that you have one marked as originally being a #80. Wouldn't that be a deluxe carpenters whittler and somewhat rare and desirable?

It would be if it were not stamped Winchester.

Gary (PCwizard) and i have been exchanging knives for awhile now. When i posted that i have never owned a Mercator, one of his "obsessed with" knives, Gary decided to rectify this and very kindly sent me a new black handle Mercator.
They are very simple knives: handle is a folded piece of steel with a spring lying along the inside of the fold. They are also relatively inexpensive so i had thought of them as hastily put together and perhaps a bit on the sloppy side. But as soon as i received it i realized it is quite the opposite. It has a very precise feel and all surfaces are well finished, nothing to snag on clothing, etc. And lock up is as rigid as a fixed blade.
I used it today and now am even more impressed. I was setting a sprinkler in my beginning arboretum and there was a small fir seedling partially blocking the sprinkler head. Move the sprinkler or cut out the little fir ? Oh, a chance to try out the Mercator. About a 3/4" diameter 'trunk' and the blade went through so easily i did not get to apply full force. What a cutter ! I have cut out many of these little trees and never was it as easy as this one.
I am now a convert: Mercator Man.
Thanks Gary. The Mercator is a knife i did need.

There are many well made fakes. Even experienced collectors get fooled at times.
A person could specifically collect fakes. Once they are known to be fakes the price drops to near zero so it would not be expensive.
The collection would be an educational tool so that knife collectors can learn what to look for when authenticating an old knife, which means every older knife you are wanting to buy.
The collector might even become a leading knife 'Fakeologist'.

Kj that's an interesting thought! I'm not sure I would want to be known as a fakeologogist though with a collection having a value near zero. It would be a great idea for a new thread though ."Fakes I have bought". There may already be one, I don't know.

The fake collection may not be worth Zero. I hate to say it but the eBay seller "tommygg101" who's always talked about in Counterfeit Watch has been selling his Fake collection for a small fortune.
