Finally!

About five years ago, I started collecting knives from the Chesapeake Bay area. Since then I've found a few knives from Virginia and Maryland, but I hadn’t been able to acquire one from Washington D.C. I hadn’t even seen a knife with a D.C. tang stamp. But this past weekend, the knife gods smiled down on me. I was finally able to get a Washington D.C. knife!

It’s a combination dip pen/mechanical pencil/knife made for D. N. Walford, a wholesale and retail dealer in sporting goods, cutlery, and souvenirs. The mechanical pencil is marked “Perry & Co.” and the pen is marked “Perry & Co. London”. This was an English company that made writing utensils from 1824 to 1961.

That is a great find' What's the handle material? Hard to tell from the pictures if it's Ivory, horn, bone, or ???

WOW!!!! That is very unique! I have a number of mechanical pencils with knife blades in them(including one that slides in and out rather than folding)but have never seen the combination of pen and pencil in one end.Must be quite a feat of engineering.
Gives me an idea for a thread on pencil/knives. Thanks for posting that;very unique!

Great score Dave ... congrats after one long search - just shows that persistence in knife hunting can pay off in the end ... Like Ken asked above I was wondering the same about the handle - can be smooth bone but has that big "I" appearance to me ?

Thanks, guys! The handle is polished bone. When I first saw the seller's pictures I thought it was bakelite, but in hand you can see the pores.
