Maher & Grosh Klondike Camp Knife

Post by outkast »

Maher & Grosh Klondike Camp Knife, what I got and what it once looked like. The blade is obviously short and reshaped and has been rehandled but these are pretty rare knives. My question I'm thinking I want to have checked ebony put back on it maybe even have the blade reshaped like it was and shorten the handle a little to make it look right? Some are telling me leave as is. As it is part of the history of the blade. So what do yall think?

Can't hurt it now and could improve it in my opinion.

I agree with Steve. Once a knife is no longer in it's original state, all bets are off. It's already altered so it really doesn't matter at this point. If it were mine, I'd would fix it up "tastefully" so as to bring justice to that old and sturdy knife.

In other words, I would do it in a way that would correspond to the time period that the knife was made, and how most knives from that era looked. Maybe you could research old photographs from that era and replicate what they looked like so the knife has the same basic appearance of that time period.

Outkast, that's an awesome knife! I think it's a great idea. A smaller version of the original. Yes! ::tu:: ::tu::

Really can't decide now a friends who has been collecting since the 70's is telling me leave it like it is. It's rare and other than the catalog pics he's only evry seen one other and he has it.
