Fam-fire, not really. We went out to watch the Gunnersmates practice and the Weapons officer let us snipes shoot some. I got some training with a .45 to stand sounding and security watch on that new D.E. I was transfered to in '71. ftd

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Y'all are bringing back the memories. My dad had an accurized WWII issued Ithaca M1911A1 USN that he shot competitively in matches. Everyone that saw it drooled over it and wanted to buy it. I learned to shoot handguns at around 14 years old, using that pistol. At some time when I was in my early 20s he sold it. How I wish I had it today. The .45 auto is my favorite handgun cartridge to this day, but sad to say a while back I realized I no longer own a single 1911 model. Guess I'll have to start looking for a good one.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Ken, I had to tease my buddies (all gun aficionados) that they can't be real patriots and certainly not real Texans unless they have a 1911 and an AR 15 (all in jest, of course).
They used my shaming and teasing of them as an excuse to their wives in order to buy their guns. On the bright side, they all have a 1911 and an AR now.
We all went hog hunting last weekend, and had a blast.

Unk, the 1911 and an AR make a great combination even despite the disparity in ages of their introductions. I guess unless I can count an M&P 15, and not having a 1911 either, I fail the test on both counts!Unk wrote:Ken, I had to tease my buddies (all gun aficionados) that they can't be real patriots and certainly not real Texans unless they have a 1911 and an AR 15 (all in jest, of course).

I won't need to use that excuse with my wife. We have been married so long, and so many guns and knives have come and gone, she doesn't complain. She thinks they all look alike, and the last gun I bought a couple months ago, she just rolled her eyes and said "Happy Birthday". It wasn't my birthday though!

Ken,
Yes, my buddies didn't have to do much cajoling with their wives, either. We all get together and shoot clays and plink with .22s several times a year (one of them lives out in the country). The wives and kids all join in and enjoy shooting as well. The wives all even have their "own" guns..... this is Texas, after all.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
G dog, that M&P Shield is one sweet little pistol. I've had a 9 mm Shield for several years, several thousand flawless and fun rounds through it at the range. Picked up a .45 Shield a couple months ago. If anything it's even better - hard to believe how little recoil it has. S&W designed a winner.
No wonder last months American Rifleman magazine reported the S&W Shield as the top selling handgun. Its a buyer's market now and S&W has a $75 rebate offer on them through the end of June so anyone thinking about getting one, now is a great time.

I've shot the M&P 9 and the 45. I couldn't reall tell any appreciable difference in the recoil between the two. I'm sure there was, but not enough to choose one over the other based on recoil.
They are well made, easy shooting, and reliable.

You got it Jerry thanx
the Smiths are nice not SIG quality like my buddies 320 or my 238 which I still can't carry ,like the BG.380 way too much but there great for the price point. When I got the SD9VE i let the G19 go , still have the G23 .40 but I'll let her go when I buy the Shield .45

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Gdogg how would you compare the G19 and the SD9VE ? Since the Glock is gone I assume you liked the SD9VE more. If so why ?
I've got the predecessor of the SD9VE, the SW9VE. It's very reliable and shoots where I aim it but the trigger takes some getting used to.

Phil, they shoot and breakdown the same but for me the grip angle on the Smith is more to my liking. For a value edition the SD has as much if not more quality.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Tried some new to me me powder in 38 Spec and 45 Colt, Winchester 231. Been around forever but I've never used it. ANyway took a couple of pictures of the guns from that session at the range to check sights and function. Also had a pre war 300 Sav Savage 99 R along to shoot a postal match with but forgot the darn target. Rules for the match were lever gun with any sights, scopes had to be age appropriate to the rifle. The scope is an old Lyman Alaskan on vintage Stith mounts. Checked my hunting loads with it so it worked out. I hadn't had these revolvers out for a while so it was nice to have them in hand again.
Oh yeah, that's a Case 6235 XX USA 9 dot with nice red bone handles with the Ruger. A good day at the range.

I've been looking at a slightly used ArmaLite 5.56mm AR type rifle here in town.
It has adjustable fold down after-market sites and no carrying handle.
Collapsible stock.
Reminds me of the CAR-15 I carried in another life.
I did not copy the serial number, so I do not know how old it is.
Price is $599.00.
Might can negotiate that down a bit.
Any opinions on it?
No pics.

McNamara's Rodent Rifle. It's made by Mattel, it's swell. An opinion formed purely on rumor and innuendo by an old M-14 tote'n Marine.RobesonsRme.com wrote:I've been looking at a slightly used ArmaLite 5.56mm AR type rifle here in town.
