The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Greg I really like the one third from the right with no shield! She has very nice bone handles First time I have seen her in while Nice group of 72's you have there. Unfortunately it looks like I will be selling some of the 72's in my collection. Not all of my 72's though!

Greg, in addition to the ducks on the water black bone handle, you also need the black bone plain issue. (very hard to find). They go with your Ole Smoky. All three made about the same time.

I've never handled one but I too noticed that the liners may be n/s and milled, however I doubt the handles are ebony. You don't see any pins in those handles and wood would not adapt it's self to the tab method of mounting them that was prevalent in that era.

Guys thanks for the support. Not much knife work at he moment. Since my pension does not cover my monthly expenses I decided to open a store here at AAPK to sell my collection. Just can't see my knives go on Ebay. Looked through my collect and set aside just a little over 300 knives to sell here. Just a little at a time. Just looking to make ends meet. At the moment I have a 1047 listed with black handles. Later I have another to list with Delrin if anyone is interested. If I decide to sell the ones that I have rehandled I will post them to this thread for your guys to have a crack at. I shudder to think about them floating around on Ebay.

Here are the Crafstsman whittler, and the three 72 clones that I received from Roland{Kootenay Joe}. Very nice knives I would say and Roland being the scholar and gentleman that he is threw in a 58OT Ulster and a Schrade 219. Pretty good haul I think. Thanks Kj!

Tommy the master blade is etched Craftsman 9529 Chrome Vanadium and the bolster pin is visible so my guess would be Camillus made for Sears. Nice bone handles as well. What do you think?

Greg, that Craftsman 9529 is an eye catcher. The bone on it is outstanding. Must look extra special in person. Class act by Roland to throw in those two extras. A very good haul indeed.
Tommy, the etching is not very visible. If you can see it then your eyes are AOK.
I like the blade configuration on the 9529 & the set up too. With the pen & coping blades on the back end it's almost like a true whittler. Personally I favor the pen over the small clip. I had noticed before that the coping blade is shaped slightly different than the 72s. Maybe it's the different grind, or as well? Can't really see it clear enough to tell for sure.
..felix, if my eyes are o.k., I sure would hate to be blind!!!....I also like the older whittlers with the coping and pen blades together. my favorites are the 3 older camillus split spring whittlers I have, it's what my grandpa always carried(along with a Camillus sunfish)!!........... ..............
Hey guys that 9529 does have the spacer between the springs like most whittlers we've seen in the last 140 years. Though not a true split spring which I don't know anybody that has one it is made like a whittler.

...I guess I need to study up on terminology..all three of mine have 2 springs with a tapered spacer between the springs!!..wish I could find a true split-spring!!..... ..............
