What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

The price that knives that have sold at auction on Ebay is the best way to judge your prices...often times I've seen a knife being auctioned bring more than the same knife listed at a fixed price. I believe that this is because so many more people put it on their watch list when the price starts out low. If no one is watching the knife then no one is bidding or buying. I recently bought a Schrade off a seller that has quite a few listed, all at auction, new in the box. I checked out his completed listings against what you have listed. Most of his are in later boxes so the fact yours are older may make a difference to some buyers and bring a little more but I wouldn't count on that. These are the prices his have brought NIB. Hope this helps and good luck on your sales.

3 3/8 equal end cattle knife pattern. Spear with long pull, spey and punch blades. Spear master blade tang-stamped SCHRADE/WALDEN/N.Y.U.S.A. on mark side. Tang-stamped 0302 on pile side. No half stops. Faint remnants of an etch ??ADY JR. on master spear blade. All blades centered properly, with good snap and no lateral play. All blades show grey patina, some faint micropitting in places. Possible sharpening, but not evident, as there appears to be no blade loss. Brass pins and liners. Threaded rounded bolsters and long oval blank pinned shield may be steel rather than nickel silver; I am not sure. Brown peachseed jigged bone handles are perfect, with no pin cracks or other flaws, and little to no pocket wear. This knife is shown in the 1926 catalog, but not in any Schrade Walden catalogs. The presence of the “U.S.A.” in the tang stamp suggests that it was not made immediately after 1946. The “0302” tang stamp is a complete mystery. Anyone know who this was made for?

I really like that setup with the spear, spey and punch blades. As close as I come to that is this Ulster. It's not my latest and it's not a Schrade. I don't think I have posted it here before. I have no clue what model it is or anything. I've had it for a couple of years.

That Ulster is exceptional. ::tu:: I am assuming that it is a 'junior' at 3 3/8 inches?

The one that I posted has rounded bolsters.

Late-breaking news @ the mailbox. I am calling this celluloid "NYC Jazz Club 1937," (for the good tobacco smoke, you know). I think I will carry this one, hard snaps and half stops.

Picked up this Schrade Cut Co. sheepsfoot barlow,tight and snappy with close to full blades but someone thought it would look better with notches. Been carrying this one the last couple days.

Nice old Barlow John. ::tu::
The notches may have been added to improve the grip.
Kind of like scratting was added to early smooth bone handles; it gave a better grip and in some cases was quite pretty.

I think that is the first time I have seen that on a Schrade. 8)

Thanks Calvin. I'm surprised you did not want to make a pair of the two.
SCC calls it a "Senator" so i suppose it is. Usually Senators are a frame not as deep as this one. Being a Pen knife they are a bit more 'delicate'. This one is built more like a scaled down Cattle knife. "Junior Cattle" is a recognized sub group.

That one was on my list, but I have found that I can't have everything. :D Glad to see you get it, Roland; you must have a nice lineup of pen knives. I did buy this one. Late 1950s wavy red bone 881 for Sears.
