RS4783 Three Tool Scout

I just got this scout knife, great walk and talk, great jigging no chips. Etching is very prevalent I'm a newbie so I won't evaluate it. I was wondering what I can do for the surface rusting and blemishes, if anything at all, without A.) "cleaning" it and B.) effecting the Official Boyscout etching.

that knife been closed up in a drawer fer 40 years.. see that corrosion on the blade spines ONLY ???
nice catch . .. personally id NOT rub that blade where the etch is . .

I would address the surface rust but work around the etch. Remington made 4 versions of this knife between 1928 and 1939:

(1) 3 1/2", Removable bail, screwdriver on main blade side
(2) 3 1/2", Permanent bail, can opener on main blade side
(3) 3 1/2", Removable bail, can opener on main blade side
(4) 3 3/8" closed, no bail

Yours is #1 and was made between 1934 and 1939 and was known as BSA #1494. Very nice find!

Tom I've never seen a permanent bail variation before , is it a unicorn or do you have one ?
