Gorgeous bones on the Crown Wharncliffe Whittler. Sweet looking old knife. Very cool piece.steve99f wrote:Picked up a near mint Case 2345 1/2 cattle knife and a Crown Cutlery wharncliffe whittler at a flea market this morning, along with some other "treasures" that included a pretty neat looking hydraulic table top vise, a large Craftsman toolbox and a tool with a cutting edge with hook attached to a 36 inch handle. The real fun part is the other people.
Anyway, I've attached a couple of pics of the knives. The Crown Cutlery knife concerns me on a couple of points: Shield is on the wrong end, pivot pin is too proud on one side, the wharncliffe blade is heavily buffed with still much pitting in evidence. No looseness, happy with the thing regardless, more curious than anything.

Nice looking little Rem, but it's not a corn knife, it's a budding knife.espn77 wrote:Nice Randy. Must be something in the air as I got this corn Knife out of the mail. Corn as in your feet, not the field. Hope it isn't used.

This one came yesterday. It's a German-made American Knife Co. The back of the master blade's tang is stamped Sabre. Bone handles. Kind of unusual. It reminds me of a eureka jack, but with the blades on the wide end and a small hawkbill secondary.

30 years I've lived in NEPA and not once did the post office ever call. Today they called to tell me I had a Priority Mail Express package from Atlanta with the Blade Show from the Galleria as the address. He said they were open till 5:30 if I wanted to pick it up now or I could wait till tomorrow for home delivery. He never finished his sentence, I was at the POW before he heard the dial tone, here's a quick teaser pic.

I'll get some better pics up tomorrow, his take on Any Bose's Lanny's Clip is just unbelievably gorgeous. There isn't a seam or edge that's not perfect, there's no way to do it justice with a phone or a P&S camera, I need my tripod and more control to bring out the colors.
Here it is with a large Ebony Inlay Sebenza 21.

Definitely a fine knife & a great one i am sure to carry & use. Super smooth action along with a very sharp blade makes a knife so rewarding to use. People miss out by only ever looking at their custom knives.
I have not heard of J.D.Ellis, knifemaker. I will search to see if he has a website.

That seems to be a well made Sabre, Dave. Looks nice and solid, and probably snaps well.
Ted, that is a beauty! And a GAW to boot. Nice score!

Seems to me Alaska would be ideal hunting grounds for scrimshaw. Hope you have some success pursuing that.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Just received these two well loved Case knives from Knifeaholic (Steve).
The first is a 3 7/8" serpentine pattern Muskrat. The muskrat uses two springs and Case never gave it a pattern number. The word MUSKRAT is stamped on the tang. This one is circa 1965-69.
The second is an 8 dot (1972) 06247 serpentine pen, 3 7/8", single spring.
The blades on both are well used but the bone is fantastic. Love these old Case red bone knives.

Picked this Whittler up off the big bay..wasn't much of a description said the handles were stag?!?! Looks more like bone to me but...it will prolly be a user...not sure how much I like the "Chicago Knife Show" engraving..but it's my first whittler and the split back spring is a neat design! Anyone else know any info on this knife let me know Thanks!

Cool Cripple Creek there. Great bones and blades, classic old school look.
