Newest Case Pick-Ups

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I should have included pile side photos of each one as well...they really do have some of the nicest stag of all my Case knives.

Here are my two latest pickups. I tried to get the fire of the pearl handled 84062k in the pics but but she looks much better in hand. The second is an XX 61048 with Rogers bone.

Ditto the above. I believe that MOP is the first time I have seen it used on a knife with more than two blades, or a multi tool knife. An excellent find. Congrats. ::tu::

Jerry that's a real looker! I'm not to well versed in the elephant toes, did they commonly use that long tail C stamp on those?

Greg, the 6250 is not a pattern I follow (this one was "included' with another knife I wanted) so I have not seen very many. I still have an opinion on the long tail C stamp, though. :) I see the long tail stamp used frequently on the large patterns with broad blades (cokebottle 050, 65, 72, etc.,) and the Toenail also has a broad blade. When I see the smaller C underline stamp on a broad blade knife it seems like it is an early Tested knife. I think the long tail C stamp would be common on Tested XX Toenail knives after about 1925. My 6250 has the XX style lettering on the shield which makes me believe it is a mid to late Tested example.

Here is a picture of an early Tested XX 6165. It shows the smaller C underline stamping. Cues that this 6165 is an early Tested knife are: 1) Bomb shield, 2) shield has raised lettering, 3) large jigs in the bone, 4) pattern number stamped on back tang "XX 6165".

Very interesting Jerry! I too have noticed that the long tail C stamp seems to appear on the larger patterns more often but I think that is the the first toe that I have seen with it. Thanks for the info and congrats on a very nice example. ::tu::

I have ordered a Carhartt by Case large stockman #36303 and it should be delivered in a week or so. If I like it (and I'm sure I will), I will probably buy more. I'm looking forward to getting it. This is just an internet picture.

Gotta love that big #75 pattern. ::tu:: Excellent choice, I hope you like it! The 75 was one of the knives that really got me addicted to traditional folders, so if you value your savings watch out.

This is my latest Case, it rode with me all day today. ::tu::
