howdy from me and my unique 119

Hello folks,

My first real knife was a 112 bought from the ships store aboard the USS Camden in 1978. It served me well as a knife, hammer and pry bar for many years. One tough hombre. I've been a Buck fan ever since. I do still have that knife.

I picked up an unusual 119 a while back and id like to share it with folks. The name apparently isn't associated with Buck Knives but the knife is nicely engraved. It came with an 80's custom shop sheath but for a 120. I've been looking for an appropriate original and a equal custom sheath to fit it.

I think the name is just silk screened on. I'll find out when I try to remove it. So far it hasn't riled my fury so it remains. Enjoy. I have many other nice Bucks I'll be showing at some point.

The engraving is very attractive; it is not at all incongruous with the lines of the knife; it really sets it off. I never thought of engraving on a Buck; they seem so plain jane. That said, I love Buck sheath knives. I have several and they would be the last to go if I had to trade in my knives for food or whatever, and if you know me that would be saying a lot. Thanks so much for sharing and I want to welcome you to the forum; there is a fellow here named Old Hunter who will be peeking around your corner soon, no doubt. That is a good thing.

Mark, welcome to AAPK and to the Buck sub-forum. That is a nice Buck 119 you have. Like several others, I find the engraving to be quite tasteful - I have not seen any factory work from Buck like that - I ASSUME (you know what that means) that the work was done after production. The blade etch looks out of place with the quality of the engraving - Buck did etch knife blades for lots of companies (lots of Buck 110 Folding Hunters floating around for NS Corp, CSX RR, Weyerhaeuser, etc.) but I've never seen a one-off for an individual (unless JIM BUCK was a company name). The etching could be after market as well. All speculation. Glad to have you with us. OH

Thanks for all the welcomes folks! When I got the knife I asked for history but the seller did know it. He bought it from someone because he liked it and so did I. The difference between him and I is you'll probably have to pry my cold dead fingers from it to get it from me.

In researching the knife it is possible there was a company or business named Jim Buck. Does anyone know how buck would have etched the blade and how hard it would be to remove it? Until OH used the word etch I thought it would be easy.

I'd like to find a maker for a sheath if anyone can point me in the right direction. I'm thinking black with a touch of silver like Paladin's holster would match nicely. Now that I think of it, paladins holster would match nicely. I do have a .45 somewhere...

Yes, those were the words... weren't they. I was a hole snipe. Stood many a mid watches. Thought the military sucked when I was in. missed it when it was gone.
