It's not unusual for this pattern to crack at the rocker pin. I've only seen one white Scout that wasn't cracked at the shield.

Good knife Greg, I wonder how many here were bidding. I had the high bid for a few days then was going to bid in the last min. but the bid kept climbing. I was laughing for the last 30 sec. thinking all the time it was fellow AAPK'ers after that one. It was entertaining to say the least. I am going to find one here around here one of these days. I think that is my best option.

Hey Monte it looked like it was one guy doing all the bidding in the last 30 seconds trying to figure out what the leaders high bid was. I put my final bid of $55 in with 5 seconds to go and that was enough to do the trick.

I dont use a sniper program and it takes my phone 9 seconds. I'm glad you won it and for less than 55 bucks. I'm too cheap I was thinking I would have gone as much as 35 bucks. But I knew I had no chance at that. So I just kicked back and watched the show.

Felix, that one was listed: Vintage, Camillus, New York,USA, pocket knife, carbon steel blades. I just search vintage camillus and it pulled it up. I have been asking around here for one. I bet I will score one around here in a couple weeks. There is a knife show coming up the palmetto kinfe show in SC. I didn't see any at two gun and knife shows this past weekend. There is a good gun and knife show coming up mothers day weekend in Ashville. I hear its a great place to find vintage knives.

In truth, I wouldn't have gone for it...IF I had seen it. I don't have much to spend to begin with so, I'm focused on one 1st G. in bone in excellent condition. Problem is there hasn't been one to focus on since I started looking. You hounds have just about found every last one. I'm gonna have to refuel and starting looking in local antique shops or some where else. Pawn shops are not what they use to be. Most if not all are national chain pawn shops with a bunch of knives from china at higher than new prices. Their pricing is ridiculous. I'd haggle them down if I wanted one but don't care for them at all. No more mom and pop pawns in these parts, only antique shops and flea markets. Problem is I like my vodka and scotch on Friday and Saturday night and usually just eat and veg on weekends.

Jerry that one has my attention also. I watch all the knives that he puts up for auction. He lives only 40 min from the house. So I should see if I could visit him. He is a super nice guy. I needed some pins for a 165OT that I have been working on for a freind. He sent them to me me along with a handfuul of others. I told him I would send him pics when I was through but haven't finished the project yet.

Last week I was going through this thread checking for photos of the pile on a 2nd G's main blade trying to figure out if the full sabre grind on both sides had been phased out during the short line period or not. I got up to page 72, didn't find any (but did see it on this one that Greg just won) so my best guess is that it was phased out along with the 1st G's and the change of blade configuration in 1947. I think I remember seeing some later models with sabre grind on both side too, then discontinued again, but not sure.

Felix the knife that I just won doesn't have a sabre grind on the pile side. I have only seen one other knife that has the double sided sabre grind on the master other than the first gens and Jerryd owns it, a long line 1047 scout knife.

So I had to look through my pile of 72's and found these. All short line the ones on the far left and the far right are second gen, the one in the middle is a first gen.

Well I'll be doggone Randy! Those are the first second gens I have seen with the double sided master. That's a couple of keepers for sure. I would bet a dollar to a donut that my Cam-Case 72 is the only one out there!

Randy, I saw the rehandling process on your thread. Great job! I thnik Greg owns more than one 1st G 72 but that one is a one of a kind for sure. Can't be positive (I'm on a cell) but both 2nd gens seem to have a sabre grind on the pile side too.

....this is gettin' confusing, guys!!!, I've got 4- split-spring whittlers(4 line) that are flat ground on both sides-3- 1st.gen(short line stamp) that are sabre ground on both sides-I have 1 first gen. that is sabre ground on both sides, marked on the master(mark side)-sword brand, pile side is 4 line stamped, it also has worked liners and a big oval 4 pointed shield and smooth brown bone. 3 of my earlier second gens are sabre ground on the mark side only, later ones are flat ground on both sides.....is everyone else as confused as I am????.................... .................

At first I felt like when I thought that Camillus had phased out the sabre grind on the pile side along with the change of blade configuration in 1947. Then Randy popped with 2 2nd gens with full sabre grind on both sides. "Camillus, man." <~ That was my first reaction when Randy came up with his 2 2nd gens. And now Tommy comments... It's crazier than Schrade with their blade grinds but the good thing is that Camillus stamps are a bit easier to date than Schrade stamps ... I think.

Edit: it's easier for me though since I'm only looking for a 1946 model and that one only comes with the two sided sabre grind main with the pen blade next to it.

I'm in the dark as much and probably more than most folks interested in the 72s. 1st generation, 2nd generation, etc.. However I do know one thing and that is, I am the proud owner of one of the finest lookin' 72s that I've see on the forum. It's not mint but a great old knife that was gifted to me by my Marine brother, Jerryd! I've had it for several years and it truly lives up to the quote by TJ Murphy that Jerry has on his posts, "The #72 pattern has got to be pretty close to the perfect knife." This is one of those knives that gets very little pocket time but is admired and appreciated for what it is and even more, what it represents! Thank you again, Jerry!
If I read it right it is a 1st generation, short line, sabre grind both sides of the clip with beautiful perfect bone. 1946-50? If I'm not readin' her right, please set me straight. Hoping it's from that era, seein' how I'm a 1946 model.
