Here is today's acquisition:a letter opener;ink eraser, and a dip pen all with abalone handles in the original box. There is no maker's name on them but I have another miniature table knife with abalone handles that has an identical sticker inside and that was made by Salm in Germany.

Nice 'Desk Set' !
From before WW I ?
I went to school in 1950's and in 5th grade we had to learn to use a nib & inkwell for all our work the entire year. Ballpoints were not allowed. i.e. pens with nibs were still in use until about 1950's so this set might not be as old as WWI, although i think it is.

WOW! ! Jerry that is really snazzy looking. I like the color of that horn. ::tu::

I have a german tool set and the knife handle has a locking lever on the side of the handle. You pull it up, change the blade then push the lever back down to lock it.

Many of the tool kit knives lock in the same as the Imperial set. Some of the German ones have the locking lever as described above and others have s simple lockback style backspring to release and lock the blades in place. These usually have a handle that allows the blade to be locked into either the normal position or at 90 degrees to the handle for using a tool such as a corkscrew or an awl.

Nice clean 8OT, GW!

Got a couple real gems in the mail this week, plus a "user" that is nearly as clean as the dead-mint example I've already got. A few hits on the DMT and it'll be pocket-ready.

Tony, that's a couple of nice 72's there! ::tu::
Here's what I had in the mail basket when I got home. The sidewinder is larger than I thought and is quite impressive. The unlocking mechanism is activated by depressing the shield. Another liner lock Sodbuster and a good old shortline 72 with black composite handles.

Got me a couple of older schrades on the cheap.

First one is a walden peachseed 895, perfect HOK condition. Tight and snappy as it should be, just needs a little sharpening work. Second one you don't see too often, cut co stainless. Too bad somebody sharpened it poorly and messed up the finish, but the blades are full and any stainless cut co is relatively rare. I was also supposed to get a rough rider swing guard today, but the delivery person blundered. I guess I'll see it monday
