Re: Knives in the Wild
This picture is from the wilds of my backyard under the giant maple tree. I took some photos down by the river a short walk from home a couple days ago but only had a single knife on me that morning. This pic of a group of 4 is a bit nicer.

Great thread gents - outdoors is the natural place for a knife to be working - enjoying your photo's. Snapped one of my 8OT in the woods out turkey hunting yesterday - yep, that is poison ivy - there was lots more than just that little plant! OH

Some really great photos on here. These photos were taken on my property; on a few acres - surrounded by 100s more acres - filled with majestic oaks, elms and more wilderness with lots of wildlife - coyote, fox (red & silver), turkey, hawks, owls, hogs....

An outstanding #72 and excellent composition in those photos, Felix!
The setting really brings out the warmth in the whittler's bone.

Re: Knives in the Wild
Thank you. Those are turkey calls; these types are "pot calls". The gray one has a slate surface, the clear one (with the maker's name) has a glass surface (roughed up on one side). The two pen like items are called strikers - the hunter holds the pot in one hand and the striker in the other - various moves, at the correct angle, on the surface of the call (strikes, lines, ovals, circles, etc.) will allow you to yelp, purr, putt, or cluck. Thanks, Greg, Tony & Mike. Your kind comments are very much appreciated. I was messing with my old longbed Chevy and decided to bring out the 72 to see the light of day. You're right, that 72 - unlike me - is very photogenic.313 Mike wrote:Beautiful pics fellas, and Felix allow me to pile on the admiration for that 72

Re: Knives in the Wild
Felix, your composition of the knife placed on the tree ought to win some sort of award. The textures of bark and knife blend perfectly to my eye.

Quick Steel,
thanks for the great compliment... ...but an award?
I'm humbled by the thought but I'd have to give all the credit good old mother nature and those fine Camillus people who took pride in making certain knives a work of art. Like the 1946 "1st generation" Carpenter's & whittler's knife...with Rogers bone.

Re: Knives in the Wild
Felix, mother nature and Camillus provided the ingredients. However, you blended those ingredients; it is your composition of the elements that make that photo. [Otherwise, when my mom served a delicious cake I would have praised Betty Crocker. I was wise enough as a kid not to do that.]

That's a neat picture, Scott. Are there 2 more turkeys further down the bank?
