How not to lose my EDC?

This may strike some as a silly question, but I bet I'm not the only one who's wondered about it.

For years I stopped carrying a pocket knife, mainly because I couldn't seem to hang on to them. The number of Schrade Improved Muskrats and Case Peanuts that I have donated to wherever lost pocketknives go is dismaying.

Ten years ago when I was doing the EDC, my attire was different. Now, I'm in business attire more often than not. So belt sheaths are out.

I'm carrying a knife again, a carbon Camillus stockman. I think my paranoia about losing it has so far prevented its loss. That said, I fear that I'll misplace this Camillus and replacing it will be difficult.

So other than "Be more responsible with your stuff," can anyone share with me some loss-prevention strategies?

Thats simple, do like i do and have it in your hand most the time. I open, close, turn, flip, and look at it . Basically, I don't put it down until i am going to sleep. Maybe I need a shrink

For me, two absolute rules:
1. Don't loan.

2. If not in use, it is in my pocket.
Maybe I should add a 3rd., don't carry to airport.

Sounds about right....maybe put it on a chain. I like a full size knife anything the size of a mini Trapper, peanut and such gets lost and not much use to me.

1, Buy an ugly knife.

2, Start buying high dollar sun glasses. (you'll lose those so often that you will no longer care about losing a $30 knife)

3, Buy two of the same very expensive knife. One to use. One as a back up in case you lose the first one. Odds are, you won't lose the first one then regret spending so much on the back-up.

OK silly this mite help.

Use a pocket sheath that fits your EDC now.

When you use her make sure you have the sheath or knife in one hand.

When done put them both in your pocket. After you place your REAL nice EDC in your sheath. I can tell you feel this is a classy knife so treat her that way with a small pocket sheath. That extra thing will make you like her even more.

Idea get a pearl handle EDC that way you will not set it down with out the sheath....

that is why only carry "lower end" slippies. i can't afford to lose a $100 knife.

I carry a William Henry with a Leather Thong.(No Clip) I always carry it in the same pocket, and NOTHING else in that pocket. I would be lost without it. I wear dress pants Monday through Thursday and Jeans on Friday and Sat. I use the knife many times a day and could not be without it. I only panick a couple of times a month when I forget to transfer it!

Yeah,I'm with Wildcat...I usually only carry lower end knives as EDC's!!
Ive been pretty lucky by only losing a couple over the last 30+ years!!

Have Muskrat Man put a bail on it if it doesn't have one already, then attach it to your belt by a fancy chain and clip, or a piece of nylon fishing line.
Whatever you use, make it long enough so you can use the knife without detaching it.

You can try some thing like this too by Coleman.

Just a temporary hitch which all genius inventors go through.
How about a lanyard loop slipped over the wrist whenever the knife is in use, and only slipped off to return knife to pocket?

I'm still working on how not to pull keys and everything else out of your pocket with the lanyard loop each time you want the knife.

And if the knife is too valuable to attach a bail, then it should not leave the house in the hands of a forgetful owner anyway.

Hey Dan,

I too am forced to wear business dress more often than not. For me, my EDC is a Benchmade that I clip inside my waistband, just behind my right hip. Unfortunately, my Benchmades are "too big" for most of my colleagues - they get scared, even if I use it to fillet a bagel.

So...in addition to carrying the larger EDC clipped to my waist, I also have been carrying various smaller slip joints. I found that several of my dress pants already have a really small pocket (for a set of keys maybe) sewn inside the larger front pocket. I just have to select a knife that fits that pocket. For example, I'm carrying a swell end easy opener today, and the swell end helps to hold the knife in the mini-pocket.

On another board, I've read of other people sewing a full length cotton sheath pouch inside their main pockets.
