KNIFE STORAGE what you all use??

I'm looking at getting something to keep my knives in, there are so many choices. What are some examples .....i.e. Wood storage boxes, knife rolls, etc..
I'm kind of partial to the wood storage cases but there alot of cash what you all think, I need some ideas.

I keep the majority of mine in hickory hill rolls stored in a gun safe. I have stayed away from wood becuase I has always understood wood to draw moisture and had a couple knives rust in a cedar chest I had them stored in.

Sack-Ups knife rolls and a plastic tool box. But I'm a new collector.

Just because I like to see my knives, I use shadow boxes. About half my knives are displayed this way, the rest are in their original boxes in a plastic tool box. The shadow boxes are not expensive, but are made in China. Humidity is not a problem here normally.

For mine, I like to use little cotton felt 'socks' that my wife makes.

They then go into a good cigar box and into a humidity controlled gun safe. In acuality, it is a temp controlled safe and that prevents condensation.

No problems thus far.

I use these to hold some in.

It was a gun case. I just added the glass shelves and lights.
I keep most Cells in it, but I do change the knives about every mo.
I to like to see my knives. Just to many in the safe.

I like thAT Gerstner TOOL BOX but there very nice and expensive. I have alot of small collectables i.e. stearling, cigar cutters and such....Is Gerstner International nice also there alot cheaper (made in China???).

I like making or converting cigar boxes or picture frames into knife displays..
You would be really surprised at some of the things that you can incorporate into displays!!
I have a couple that I'm working on,will post more pics later.
I also use standard knife rolls and socks.

I have a chance to be given a real floor safe. Would I be inviting trouble to use it for knife storage. It is a 1967. What would I need to put in it to insure thier safety???

dehumidifier of some sort is all i can think of. oh yeah, don't forget to lock it!

The old floor safe would make a great place to store your knives, and as Jonet said, use a dehumidifer. I use a Remington dehumidifier

. Just like the one on Ebay. No cords to feed thru into the safe.

Has anyone ever tried using the plastic cases with dividers used to lures for fisherman? I have mine stored in the bedroom of my house in their boxes now. I've been hesitant in doing this because the celluloid gasing keeps coming back to mind. Do you think these plastic storage cases would work or not?

het tim, all plastic puts off gas. i don't know if it would interact, but......i would'nt take a chance.

Actually there is one type of plastic that doesn't gas off but I have never seen a tackle box made from it.That is polypropylene.That was the handle material on the Case Astronaut's knife and it was used for that very reason.

I use polypropylene medicine cups to mix my paints and solvents in as the cups do not have any mold release(read wax)on them when they are manufactured(not needed as the surface is very slippery).They are also extremely solvent resistant;it is used to make storage battery cases and if it can resist sulfuric acid,it can resist just about anything.

I concur;I wouldn't take a chance storing them in plastic.Most plastics used nowadays are either PVA or some form of ABS and both deteriorate very readily especially when exposed to UV radiation or heat.

I use wooden containers lined with velour and have a couple of dessicant bags on each shelf or drawer.I change them monthly and bake the old ones in the oven at the lowest temperature setting(200 degrees I think)for a half hour to dry them out.
