Old "Country Gentlemen's knife" Can't find one on the Web anywhere?
I picked this knife up today and was fascinated with the blade etching on it! This is a really old knife my guess is early 20s! Has anyone else ever seen this etch on an ulster or any other older knife brand??
Older knives are like women, they are beautiful, pricey, and rarely do you find the good ones!

Googling Country Gentlemen, I came up with a brand of hat that dates back to the 20's. There were also some other possibilities but this one seemed likely. Great looking ebony pen knife.

According to the info in Blade's Guide to Knives & Their Values the Ulster Knife Co. tang stamp was used from 1876-1941. That is the first time I recall seeing that etch on a knife. It's a fine looking knife in what looks to be excellent condition. I can't be sure from the photo, but are the handles ebony ?

Well that would explain it. I believe Ulster was pretty big in the tobacco knives.bighomer wrote:Well now I used smoke a little country gentleman in my ole pipe and roll your on, and that's a neat knife.

Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade but I did notice that the etch says "Country Gentlemen" (plural) and the tobacco bag says "Country Gentleman" (singular). I don't know what if anything that means but it is, I thought, worthy to take note of.

The etch doesn't necessarily make it an advertising knife.

Here is a Fight'n Rooster circa 1978-79 with "Country Gentleman" etch. This Gent needs some transplantation surgery for a gas problem. He's actually headed to a doctor in Hawaii.
