They started using it around 1960 I think, only a few schrades were pinned from that point on like lockbacks.ken98k wrote:Are you saying that Schrade only used swinden construction?KnifeSlinger#81 wrote: Taylor brands used camillus for a brief period in their early ownership of schrade. Guys, It's not often that I come home and find that every knife in my mail basket is an absolute Homerun, but this is one of those times. As I opened each package tonight I was just stunned with the beauty and quality of each. I know this is a tease but I must wait until tomorrow to show them when I can get some worthy pictures. I may not be able to sleep waiting on the sunshine. Tomorrow my friends ,Four Cases, a Camillus and a GEC.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
I noticed on the Schrade trapper with the yellow handles that Knifeslinger#81 posted, the spay blade does not have a nail nick on the mark side of the blade. Comment seem to indicate a Camillus made knife, especially when considering the pivot pin. All this to say, I ended up with an Uncle Henry Trapper that has a visible pin and the nail nick on the pile side of the spay blade that we discussed here on AAPK several years ago. At that time the thoughts were that the knife had been worked on, but if the "Schrade made by Camillus for Taylor" is correct this may explain my oddball UH

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Treefarmer I am confused by that one and really am not sure exactly what it is. It has a bit different build look to me and it could have been made by camillus, I don't know. Most of the camillus made schrades I know of have a S.C.C. stamp, but I don't study much about the camillus schrades and I'm sure there's other stamps they used I don't know about. The nail nick on the pile side of the spey and bolster pins are the biggest indications that it might not be an ellenville ny schrade. Here is a 285 of mine for reference.

Wouldn't that knife Old Hunter has be a post 2004 production Bear & Son made Schrade knife for Taylor? LIke this one?KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:That might be a camillus made schrade, I do not know for sure but I've seen a few of those knives with the same etch and build look. There are a few different patterns. All the ones like yours are slightly different than an original schrade walden and just look too fresh and new, they have the late walden style view packs. The view packs should be a bit yellowed no matter how well it was stored if it's an original walden.Old Hunter wrote:I have one (this Stockman) that may be a Schrade EOD knife - I've never been able to find out much about it - it was in a pawnshop display case about six or seven years ago when I bought it
I finally saw the paperwork in one of those packages and that's what made me think they are camillus made. Taylor brands used camillus for a brief period in their early ownership of schrade. Note the visible bolster pin in the knife below, not a trait of schrade swinden assembly.

My unexpert opinion is, it's been worked on. I would think the Camillus made Schrades should have the S.C.C. stamp. But who knows for sure when it comes to Schrade.treefarmer wrote: What do y'all think?

My yellow handled S-W 881Y has Swinden Key bolsters, so it is not a Bear, Camillus, or Utica contract knife. Compared side by side with an Old Timer 8OT they nearly match, having only the knife by knife variations you would find by comparing any group of 8OT Old Timers. I think it most likely is an in-house EOD piece made up of leftovers from the 100th Anniversary re-issues. OH

Well I didn't get a truck load like Greg did, but fresh from Texas and our hood friend Paladin is this Western folding hunter! Here she is fresh out of the box. Look at that old dark red Rogers bone!
I'm plumb tickled with this one.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
The postman brought me a Walden 25OT and my first S.C.C. 898UH. The 25OT isn't what I would call minty. The blades have a little patina but don't appear to ever been used or sharpened on. It has a few minor nicks like it's traveled around a bit. Came with an older Schrade sheath that is minty. So the low price I paid for I'm extremely pleased.
