Super glue finish

I have been reading about the super glue finishes some of you guys do and talk about. What are the proper way to achieve this and what kind of glue works the best. As the zap a crack or just plain super glue. thanks.

Well while I have used zap a crack I have used regular super glue. I found that the ones with the brush make it easy to apply. Not matter what kind of super glue you use make sure to let it dry thoroughly then sand. I use wet and dry paper. I start with a 100 grit and finish with at least a 1000 grit. You may need to do several applications before you get the look you want. After the last coat has been done I give it a light finish on the buffer.

I always used Loctite super glue I guess any liquid superglue would work fine. I like to apply a couple thin coats (letting it dry between coats) then sand and apply a few more coats until I get what appears to be an even coat. if oyu sand through it anywhere you'll be able to tell and you can touch up those spots. Be careful around edges and highspots as that is where you will sand through the finish most often. I haven't used this finish in a long time but it gave a thick high gloss almost plastic type finish like is used on some high end gunstocks like wingmasters, 1100's and weatherby rifles.

I have been using super glue for pen finish for several years, I use thin to seal the wood, then use medium for the top finish. you also get an accelarator for the glue that will dry it fast and makes sanding it easier. Just be extremely careful with it because it sticks fast and holds strong, be sure that you have some debonder around in case you stick youur fingers together.

I used the thin and a paint brush to fill the pores and harden the wood on a rifle stick I refinished. I coated it, sanded down to wood and wiped it off against the grain to fill the pores. Worked great. I put an antique oil finish over that.

I've never done the bowling ball finish like is on Remington and Browning shotguns. For that I'd use epoxy.
