Re: Shapleigh Hardware Co.
Thanks, Lloyd, I'm really glad to have the smaller frame knife to compliment the big pruner with the peach seed covers.
What a pair. I'm so fortunate to get them.
Thanks again.

Joe what a fantastic group! That wharnny is beautiful, one of my favorite patterns. Here's one that I think is a slightly larger version, but might be the samer size, 3 5/8" closed:

Eric, that is a really nice knife. On my screen it was hard to see but I think I saw stag. If so that should be a hard one to find. Do you think it is a empire? I have a old stag D-E that I found in a old catalog with its twin in a Empire. I'm
not much of a expert but I would think Empire made on your knife.

Thanks Harold, yes it's stag. It's a good possibility that it's an Empire, I haven't had a chance yet to do any snooping, but I'm pretty certain it's not Schrade since I think their version was 3 1/4". It's a lot easier to tell when they have bone covers, usually the manufacturers had a special style that you could pick out. Haven't checked Ulster or New York Knife either, two other possibilities.

Eric, I found a knife much like your Wharncliff stag on 182 of Robert Mayes "Knife Album" Same size, stag, but a
different shield. Catalog munber 2S48GST. Empire made. If you ever get tired of it send it my way.

Re: Shapleigh Hardware Co.
Eric in this link to BF there are two displays of Empire knives. If you scroll down to the second display and look at the circle of knives I think you will see your knife at about 10:00 o'clock position.

Some great knives posted in this thread. Seams fitting to post this sign here.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Very nice Wayne! I've seen the same sign before, but with different hardware stores letters on them. There's also been at least one of them on eBay recently.
I have a few Shapeighs in my whittler pile. For whatever reason the last one wants to post upside down but if you click on it to enlarge, it flips to right side up.

Nice Boy's knife Joe!!
I had one of those many, many years ago!!
Just did a new scan of these old Saddlehorn Hunters. Done in the Art Deco style, they are somewhat hard to find. They were made by Empire for Shapleigh.

Re: Shapleigh Hardware Co.
Those Empire-made Saddlehorns for Shapleigh are just plain awesome knives Charlie
... I would love to get one someday but finding them is not an easy task - I have seen one for sale in my time collecting and the price was way above my head when I did see it.....
